So I took the DAT last week and I am unsure if I should retake it or not. The problem is that I feel there is a chance I can land some interviews with the scores that I currently have. If I do decide to retake it, I am unsure of what will happen.

If I tell the schools I will retake, then will they not look at my folder until October, the earliest that I can retake it?

Or, should I not tell them I might retake it and see if I can land an interview. Do the schools flat out reject you or if it's only one thing that is bad ( like the PAT score) do they put you on hold and request a retake? I am willing to take a shot with the scores I have as long as I'm not setting myself up for a bunch of rejections that I can't undo with a retake.

If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate it, I would love to take a shot with these scores if most schools don't just reject straight and away.

My dat scores have already been sent out and my app's are at all the schools, I have not sent in the secondary fees yet, I am waiting until I figure out what to do.

My GPA is 3.75 cumm 3.76 science
I have good extracurriculars, shadowing, Gateway to Dentistry at UMDNJ, and time served in U.S. Army.

DAT scores:

Bio: 23
RC:23
GC: 19
OC: 18
QR: 14
PAT: 16
AA: 19
TS: 20

I'd say take a shot with those scores. they're pretty good and you gpa covers the low PAT. so i'd try with those scores. and you can plan on retaking if you wish... just don't say anything to them just yet b/c ur not sure. but i'd submit with the scores you have and the gpa you have. hope this helps. 🙂

i think your AA and TS will at least get you looked at. its hard to say whether or not the PAT and QR will keep you out though. just make sure the schools you're applying to don't have cut offs. im pretty sure some schools will flat out tell you to retake (case, i believe) if you have 1 low score, but it varies for sure. good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the opinions guys, I appreciate it.

If I were you I would retake the test just so that I had more schools open to me. That low QR score will hurt you at a lot of schools that have automatic cut-offs, even though it is the least highly scrutinized section on the test.

Great science scores by the way! You really must have known your stuff to get marks like those.

Good luck!

Thanks for the compliment, your scores are awesome. 24 TS for the win.

Selso, I have the same AA and TS score as you so I am going to say, your scores are sweet (except QR, that was a little rough).

Who says you need to count to be a dentist? Am I right? (I got 15 QR).

The danger are the automatic cutoffs.

To Paul, I would shower in gasoline for a week to get a 24 TS.
