I am a post-bacc who has been enrolled in a program for the past year and a half. I am busting my butt and getting average results. I will be taking the MCAT next april and apply in June. I have been reviewing my transcript and things are not looking so hot. Courses that I have taken a few (3-5) years are really hurting my BCPM GPA, really hurting it. I don't know whether to pack it in or not. I would be applying with (hopefully) a 3.3 post-bacc GPA (same GPA for Post-bacc BCPM)...with the courses from the past added in, my BCPM GPA sucks, below 3.0. what to do?

well it would be dumb to pack it in at this point. you've laready invested a heck of a lot of time and resources into the process. a 3.3 bcpm is not terrible, but on the low side considering your previous grades. even though your old grades will be looked at differently, there is a psychological importance to having a cum of not less than 3.0. getting into medical school with a 2.x is extremely difficult, especially *after* having completed your post-bacc. too late to worry about that though.

prepare diligently for the mcat. a very high score will only strengthen your application.

best of luck.

I agree - I would focus on the MCAT at this point, since you can't do too much to improve your GPA but you can still rock on the MCAT. Also, my premed adviser told one of my friends that a stellar MCAT score can outweigh somewhat medicore grades in some cases.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it. It just gets a little frustrating every once and a while...things don't always look that promising.
