Hi,
I'm a URM? (Hispanic) reapplicant. Florida resident.

Stats:
B.A. Public Health GPA: 3.32 (upward trend)
MHS Biochemistry GPA: 3.35 (started off not great in the year as I developed carpal tunnel and tendinitis)
MCAT (1): 497
MCAT (2): 499

Shadowing:
80 hours

Community service:
100 - service club
Translator at an STD clinic- 60 hours

Extracurriculars:
Public health research assistant: 200 hours
Cheerleading: 100 hours
Medical research: 60 hours
Dance team: 4 years

Jobs:
Clinical research coordinator (1 year)
Public health research assistant (3 years)
Office assistance (1 year)

I know my MCAT scores both times we're not great at all. I was either working full time, or part-time while also attending school. I realized I'm just one of those that isn't capable of doing it all at once so I have been studying and focused solely on retaking it again in June. I plan on taking an EMT course (if possible considering the COVID-19) during this upcoming year regardless if I reapply or not. I would appreciate any advice, from a school list (MD or DO) to any options I should consider.

What is your undergraduate sGPA ? Where did you apply this past cycle ? Any interviews ?

My undergraduate sGPA was 2.99. I received no interviews.

Have you reached out to diversity/student services officers at your in-state schools? Any connections with LMSA chapters at those schools? HBCU-affiliated medical schools?

I have not. I'm a first-generation college graduate and I'm honestly still learning as I go. I wasn't really aware that reaching out to diversity offices was something I could do. I definitely will, thank you!

I suggest these DO schools with your stats:
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-AR
UIWSOM
ICOM
BCOM
CHSU-COM
WCU-COM
LMU-DCOM
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
LECOM (all schools)
PCOM Georgia and South Georgia
LUCOM
ATSU-SOMA
TUNCOM
Most of these schools have MCAT medians in the 498 to 502 range.
Apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July.

Faha's advice is always great. It would also be nice to hear from @Goro @gyngyn

Cuban?

Where specifically did you apply the first cycle? All MD, all DO or a mix. I’m not sure Cuban is considered URM. You’d have to check with specific schools but it seems you are fluent in Spanish and that is always a bonus.

Looking back I probably should not have applied then since working full time I did not schedule a time to look through DO schools and apply so they were all MD and not many since most of the money I made went towards my rent.

Why would Cubans not be considered URM? They are Hispanic.
It’s been awhile but it’s actually UIM-Underrepresented in Medicine. This usually includes Aa, Mexican, Puerto Rican , Native American and some Asians. It’s somewhat up to schools to decide based on their specific service communities. That’s why I said OP would have to check with individual schools.
