Hey everyone,

I am reapplying to dental school this year and have one more shot at the DAT! I am a surgical assistant at an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery center (non-certified with over 1500 hours) and have over 90 hours in shadowing general dentists, orthodontists, endodontists, and prosthodontists. I recently graduated undergrad. with a BS in Biology. My gpa is a 3.3 and my most recent DAT scores include a 17 AA, 17 TS, 18 Bio., 23 PAT, 18 Org., 17 Gen. Chem., 16 RC, and 16 QR. I was orginally scheduled to retake the DAT on July 3 however, I do not feel ready. I am scared to push the date back too much because apparently applying early improves my chances on getting accepted. I feel as if I have improved my application in every other aspect with the exception of the DATs. Should I just apply now with my recent DAT scores and see what happens? Or should I push my DAT exam to the end of July/early August (I should be prepared enough)? I'm really anticipating on getting accepted this cycle, so I'm trying to make the best decisions. Thanks!

Push back and reapply dude, you need a 22+ (same advice that was given to me).

You've got a low GPA & low DAT scores, so the odds are stacked against you. Score a 22+ and chances are you will get at least a few interviews. I would push the date back to ensure that you are prepared. In the mean time, get your transcripts and LOR in so the rest of your application is complete.

I don't normally recommend pushing back a test, but you need to be COMPLETELY prepared for this one. I'd have the rest of your app ready and then take the DAT on July 24th. That gives you an extra three weeks, and you will still be pretty early by the time your scores get in.

A higher DAT score will always trump applying a week or two earlier.
