I know we still have a little ways to go in this application cycle but I am feeling pretty discouraged (got my UCSF rejection today after what I thought was a great interview 🙁 ) and I'm trying to compensate by having a worst-case-scenario plan ready for reapplying first batch next year, if needed.

Basically, my questions are:
Should I retake the DAT, or is it ok to use my 2012 scores (below)? I'd really hate to have to retake it unless it's necessary...
Do all my LORs transfer over or do I need to get them all updated and resent to AADSAS?
Besides adding in my new experience (I've been working as a dental assistant since I sent in my 2012 application) and tweaking my personal statement, what else do I need to dramatically change before hitting send in June? Does all my other information transfer too?

I applied VERY late 2012, mid-october. 👎
19-21 DAT, 20 PAT
3.43 Science, 3.73 Non-science
Lots of dental assisting/shadowing/volunteer experience.

I'm really sorry to hear about UCSF Janzendds! I dont think you should retake the DAT, your scores are above average. I think the main problem is your late application. I too applied late and only got one interview so far. Your extracurriculars look really good. Just apply early next year if this cycle doesn't work out and you should be good. From my understanding, you will need to get your letter writers to reupload the letters onto AADSAS. In order to have it saved, a lot of predents use interfolio. My school has a letter of rec service that saves the letters for me for up to 5 years.

Chin up! You still have your Western interview coming up!! and other schools might be getting to your application soon. Best of luck!

Thank you SonicBlast. 🙂
And congrats on your acceptance!

How can I tell you if you should retake the DAT if I don't know your score? If its a 19, then maybe. If its a 20 then probably not. If its a 21 then no. What was the point of posting it if you're going to be vague about it?

I think you are a good applicant, but like you already stated, simply applied late. You still have time! Good luck at Western!

i would update at least one LOR stating your current situation, maybe from your employer/dentist you work for. i first applied for fall 2011 and reapplied for this cycle and updated all of my letters even if it was only 1-2 years old.

your application looks pretty good to me! regarding your DAT score, its tough to say whether its necessary or not, that really comes down to you. Even a 19 on your DAT is better than average, but of course the higher the score the the better your chances are. The only thing that may harm you by retaking the DAT is that some schools use your most recent score instead of the highest score...so in the worst case scenario you do worse on your DAT, it would harm you. Other than that as most people said it seems like your only problem was applying late. I don't think you'll have any problems getting in somewhere if you apply in June. Good luck!

Um. Kind of rude.
And I also meant all my scores were between 19-21. Broken down:
Ochem 21
Gen chem 19
QR 19
Bio 19
RC 20
TS 19
AA 19
PAT 20

And thank you for your input about classes. I finished undergrad in spring 2011 so I haven't been in school for awhile (have been working in research and then as a dental assistant), so it's probably not a bad idea to take a class or 2 in the next year.
