Hi! So I'm going to be reapplying for medical school this cycle. I applied last cycle using the Texas application system as I am only interested in going to a Texas school, but I believe that I transmitted my application too late in the game and ruined my chances. I only got 1 interview, and I am waitlisted at that school. Therefore, my new plan of action is to apply as early as possible, aka May 1st, when TMDSAS opens.

My issue is that I have no idea what to do about my recommendations. I chose all the best people who knew me to write my recs last cycle. Can I reuse those people for this cycle, even though I haven't recently worked with them? I can only get 1 new rec for this year from my Genetics professor.

Any suggestions? Does it look bad to use the same rec sources?

Thanks!

Hmm. I'm not sure how bad it would look. I was a reapplicant in TX this cycle. I used a committee letter that used 3/5 same professors. Just make sure that your application overall looks revamped.

In reapplying you often need to show significant improvement in your application. However, if the main reason you were not accepted was logistics like applying late then as long as you rewrite most of your app, you do not need to do a complete overhaul with new letters etc.

Yeah basically what was said above.

I applied in Texas multiple times. I finally fixed everything I knew needed fixing (timing and metrics) and did well. My letters were not one of those things. Throughout I added one letter from my current boss but the others were reused.

So you reused the same letters, or the same professors? Because if I can just recycle the letters I used last year that would be very easy haha. Is it fine that they'd be a year old?

You can definitely reuse the same letters. I had my letter writers upload my letters on interfolio a year before I was ready to apply and used those letters in two application cycles.

As long as you are confident your letters are strong you'll be fine. If you are doing any kind of health related shadowing or community service maybe have your supervisor add another letter.

Same letters lol. I wasn't about to ask for something new.
