Suppose you reapply and get interviews sometime in August. At the same time, you get pulled off a waitlist the day before classes start. Do you get blacklisted for declining the acceptance? What if you'd rather just reapply instead scrambling for housing and frantically packing?

that's a good question. if you are getting off a waitlist the day before classes start that means you got damn lucky. i'd deal with the scramble and take the sure thing.

yeah. that's probably true. once you get an MD 4 years later, that little scramble would seem well worth it.

unless the interview invite was from Hopkins ....

If there comes a point when you feel that you wouldn't go to the school, you could always withdraw from the waitlist and proceed with your applications without an acceptance. Why stay on if you're not willing to take the acceptance?

can you find out how high you are on these waitlists? might save you a LOT Of $$$ (and pain) if you're in the "very likely to get off the list"-group. It seems like some schools are willing to tell you this info (not all though).

Frantically packing and finding a place is a way better option than going through another application cycle. You might be able to arrange to crash with some med students at the school until you find a place. Maybe you can try to arrange a deferment if something like that happened as well.

After going through this process once, you really want to do it again? I say take the sure shot.

You can secure housing and financial aid within days. I am pretty sure that most schools will help you out if you are scrambling.

Also, turn in your fafsa now for the schools you are waitlisted at. It will expediate your FA process a lot.
