Reapplying with a Backup

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the first time i applied, i applied with an MPH as my back-up--and ended up doing that. the second time, i applied with SGU in Grenada as my back-up--but i ended up at a SUNY school in the US🙂

Any of you reapplying to MD/DO schools and applying somewhere else as a backup like the carribean or Masters program?

The nice thing about the Caribbean and other common "backups" is that they often have start dates in line with an unsuccessful MD/DO application cycle. Caribbean schools have 2-3 entry semesters per year and some other programs get most of their applications in January or later. Good luck!

I was an EE major.
First year our of college, applied MD/MSEE back up, MD no love ended up MSEE.
Second year, applied MD, no love, dropped MSEE, started .com company, entreprenuer.
Third year (Now), applied MD/DO, admission from a DO school class of 2013.

lesson learned, if you really want to become a doctor, apply to DO, too.

what's an EE?
p.s. congrats on your med school admit.
What kind of .com did you start up? I heard that the .com's were all belly up...I guess you bucked the trend, huh?

I'm re-applying this year, and currently completing my "backup" Master's program which will be finished in '09. If I don't get in anywhere this application cycle I'm going to think really long and hard before re-applying again. Because honestly if I can't get in anywhere with 2 bachelor's degrees, a master's degree, 3.5+ GPA's, 27 MCAT (average for D.O.) and over 500 hours of clinical experience applying to 30 schools, then something is clearly wrong with my application and the field is just not meant for me.

I guess I haven't tried the Caribbean route yet, so that would probably be my "second" backup if I decide to re-apply a third time. But definitely no more school after this.

As an aside, I don't have the best writing, but my MCAT "R" score wasn't too shabby and I had all my personal statements professionally edited by essayedge.com (not ashamed to admit).
