Hello all,

I just started scheduling my actual premed coursework which is a really exciting step for me but I have a couple questions for those of you who have been through it. At my university, our intro to bio is considered a "weed out" course. Tests are really tough, lots of work, blah blah blah. I know it's nothing I can't handle especially since I really actually enjoy bio but I'm wondering if I took on too much. Right now, I'll be taking Bio, GenChem 1, and A+P 2 (already took 1 and figured I should finish the sequence, right?) plus an online course. Does that sound like too much for right now? I know it's basically nothing compared to what a med school load will be but I just want to make sure I can maintain a good GPA this semester since I have a very positive upward trend so far. Thanks!!

I haven't had A&P at a college level yet so I can't speak to that. (I think there are a bunch of prereqs for that at my school actually, how have you had A&P1 but not intro to bio?)
Bio 120 was suppose to be a weed out class at my school and I thought it was pretty easy, but I'm sure it varies by school and other factors. I think that sounds manageable. Are you usually able to do well with a similar number of hours? Just make sure you know what resources are available to you and take advantage of them as soon as you have any issues. Or even before that. If your school offers free tutoring take advantage f it and stay ahead. Good luck!

The prereq for A+P is basically a human health and disease bio course, super easy. I feel pretty confident but at the same time I wanna make sure I'm being smart and not too overzealous, haha. Thanks for the advice!!

Few questions:
1. What is your major
2. Did you take AP bio in high school or some form of intro to bio previous to this class?
3. How did A&P 1 go for you? Did you find the physiology portion difficult to comprehend? Did you understand cell signaling pathways and cell types?
4. What is the rigor of A&P 2? At my alma mater, physio was a pretty hard course and was pretty time intensive.

If A&P went well for you and you comprehended the phsyio portion well... you should not have a problem with intro to bio. Gen Chem 1 was tough for me.. I did well in the class but really had to study.
And like previous posters, I am questioning how gen bio and biochem were not a pre-reqs for your A&P course???

1. Health Sciences.
2. Yeah, I took Human Bio in Health and Disease.
3. A&P was pretty good. I did well in it and didn't struggle too much. The physiology portion came pretty naturally to me after some studying.
4. A&P 2 is basically just the organ systems and other stuff not discussed in A&P 1 (cardiovascular, digestive, blood, etc.) Besides that, I don't honestly know too much about it.

I'm a little nervous about Gen Chem 1. My chemistry isn't too strong. I took College Chem 1 (non-science major chem) one of my first semesters and got a C+ because I basically didn't care and just needed a science for gen eds.

The only pre-req for A&P was the bio course I took my first semester. No chem needed for some reason. I think that's a little odd as well.

Bio was also a weed out at my school. Needless to say, the only people who gave up were those who were constantly blaming the professor and not doing their readings. Of course, this depends on schools and professors. You sound like you're on the right track; you can do it, as long as you're focused.

It seems like students always blame the professor and not themselves. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.
