I am reviewing my practice CARS sections and am apparently struggling with a pattern of common wrong answers. It looks like I am having trouble deciding when to "reason beyond the text" and when to "reason within the text":
When a question asks you to interpret some information (i.e. what is provided in the passage, preceding answer choices or question stems), how do you decide when to infer information that is NOT explicitly provided and when to reason among the information you have available? The answer rationales I keep reading tell me "we're told nothing about..." or tell me I didn't read enough/infer enough from the passage. I can't decide when to do either - help!
