For applying to summer programs, I am asking the grad student (GS) I used to work with at this lab for a LOR. GS agreed to do it but no longer works at PI's lab. So should I have GS send letter to PI to be edited and signed? I will ask PI in person about this situation.
What is the easiest way to do this?
Also, is it okay to let GS know that it will have to be edited by PI at the end? (I just want to offend them or make it seem like their effort wasn't good enough or anything). Help!

I've been advised not to have grad students write them at all. I would only have your PI write it, or see if your PI will sign it if he or she edits it.

GS should never be the signature on a LOR for medical school. They can however, like a post-doc or fellow, write/outline a letter for a busy PI because they 1) know the applicant better than the PI having worked with the student daily and 2) they have the time to put some thought into the letter. However, at the end of the day, the letter should be edited/signed by the PI.

Edit: OP, I have replied to your PM.
