Hey all - my dentist is in his 70s just generally dislikes using his computer/typing/looking at the screen. I'm getting a letter of recommendation form him, and it seems like an easy solution would be to have him mail in a copy of the letter but I live across the country for school and won't be able to meet up with him to give him the Interfolio form until I go back home. I offered to walk him through it over the phone but he pretty much asked me to type up a hand-written letter he's going to mail to me and make an account for him on Interfolio and submit everything myself...so basically I'd be sending a request on Interfolio to "him" (actually me) and then uploading the letter to myself. 😵 I mean if the dental school wanted to verify the letter and contacted him, he would know what they're talking about and could confirm that I shadowed him and everything. He just wants me to do it for him. Can I do this? It feels weird to me but at the same time it feels fine because I know I'm not bull****ting and I doubt they bother verifying thousands of letters. Man, I should have shadowed a younger dentist

I got a letter of recommendation from a dentist who was also pretty technologically challenged. What he ended up doing is:

1) Dentist writes hand written letter.
2) Dentist has secretary type it up on official office letterhead and signs where needed.
3) Dentist has secretary scan it into computer (at this point you can guess that the secretary is way more tech inclined... obviously).
4) I send Interfolio link to secretary and she uploads it.

That seemed to work pretty well for me, and I'm sure it could work well for you!

Thanks! But for the Interfolio account itself, I don't think my dentist even has a personal email account as crazy as that sounds. I guess I can try asking them to set one up with a different email maybe? And I've seen his letterhead, looks like I could make it on Word in 10 seconds  oh well...doesn't have to look good!

Edit: One more quick question! Once I download the AADSAS matching forms and fill out the one for the dentist, I attach that to interfolio so it can get sent with the letter in my app, correct? Is there a good chance they'll call/email/send a letter to the dentist at some point after? If so, I'd like to know so I can give him a heads up (a few times probably haha) so any contact from ADEA or whatever isn't ignored

I don't think my dentist received anything after... at least he never told me. What you said about the matching form is correct. I sent the Interfolio invitation to his office email. If the secretary has a computer to deal with appointments and stuff I'd bet they have their own office email.

Ok, here is what I did.
The dentist hand-wrote the letter. In the letter, he indicated that please contact me @phone-number if you need further information. I scanned the letter to get his signature and typed the letter up. For interfolio, I signed up an email for the dentist and worked with it all myself.
