Basically title, I am still waiting for review to occur on my app (submitted 6/4) but I woke up to a secondary that says they’ve received my app from Amcas? It’s Texas mstp program if that makes a difference also. has anyone experienced this?
????? Since TMDSAS doesn't verify, it's possible that school can see that you submitted and isn't waiting for verification. That would be my guess.Basically title, I am still waiting for review to occur on my app (submitted 6/4) but I woke up to a secondary that says they’ve received my app from Amcas? Yea I’m really confused. I thought the mstp admissions operated separately but maybe they still use whatever Tmdsas algorithm for secondary sending. Super strange might send email????? Yes, MSTP admissions are separate. I'm just speculating that schools might have continuous access to the AMCAS portal, so they can see you when you have added them to your school list. And, if Texas schools don't care about transcript verifications, they might not wait until you are verified before sending you a secondary, even if you are applying through AMCAS rather than TMDSAS.Yea I’m really confused. Secondaries are often a tax on the hopelessly naive, if not pathologically optimistic.Basically title, I am still waiting for review to occur on my app (submitted 6/4) but I woke up to a secondary that says they’ve received my app from Amcas? Perfect!! This is the missing information we were looking for.when any application is received and in the queue, electronically is sent to every school applied to to expect a file. They transmit name, email address and a few other things. they do not, repeat, they do transmit anything about the contents of your app. Some schools will send blind secondaries from that info under the " @Goro Naive Tax Act" . Students could have their secondaries completed and returned before the primary is transmitted. It has absolutely no indication in their interest. It is just schools getting ahead on the the massive amount of application processing. Several AMCAS schools where infamous for doing this a few years ago, usually the lower tier. I have had a student get secondaries prior to verification and transmission, fully complete, only to be rejected a few days or hours after AMCAS transmission
I think it came from you listing the MSTP program on AMCAS.Yea I’m really confused. I thought the mstp admissions operated separately but maybe they still use whatever Tmdsas algorithm for secondary sending. Super strange might send email
???? I know @gonnif says this has happened in the past, and, of course, OP is reporting it happening with a Texas MSTP program, but where is anyone reporting receiving a Mt. Sinai secondary before transmitting a primary this cycle?I had noticed this today as well, and I wanted to ask @gonnif so here’s my chance!
Mt. Sinai is one AMCAS school that sent out secondaries before students apps were transmitted. Is it because they were able to see on their portal that applicants selected Mt. Sinai? They clearly have not read the primary app yet.
Texas regular MD schools wait until the app has been transmitted to send an email with a secondary invitation. Exception is A&M where you can create a portal login and submit it whenever.
TMDSAS does have a verification process, mainly looking for completeness, categorization of courses, & determination of TX resident status. They calculate the GPA in several ways & then transmit the primary to schools.Perfect!! This is the missing information we were looking for.
In case you weren't aware, Texas schools do not verify transcripts for their MD only applicants, which is why they sent OP a secondary. It's no more or less a naive tax than just about every school in the country nowadays that does not prescreen secondaries. Thank you for explaining the "how." Mystery solved!!! 🙂
That's what I meant! 🙂 I am figuring that since Texas MD only programs do not verify transcripts, that the MSTP program in question was not holding up OP's secondary while the application was in the AMCAS transcript verification queue. We were both wondering how this could happen. @gonnif cleared up the mystery!!TMDSAS does have a verification process, mainly looking for completeness, categorization of courses, & determination of TX resident status. The transcript is not used in the TMDSAS verification process.
All MSTP apps and MDPhD apps go via the AMCAS system, even for Texas programs. That's what I meant! 🙂 I am figuring that since Texas MD only programs do not verify transcripts, that the MSTP program in question was not holding up OP's secondary while the application was in the AMCAS transcript verification queue. I don't know what @wysdoc knows that isn't public knowledge, but there have not yet been any reports on the Mt. Sinai thread of people receiving secondaries before verification or transmission. If anything, the NY schools are notoriously slow once things actually get going, so there is no reason for Mt. Sinai to be pushing secondaries out the door before receiving primaries!yes, they get bare contact info originally designed for readiness of application transmission. I know sometime ago Drexel and a few other schools were doing this. I wonder if Mt Sinai want to grab students earlier in the cycle. I really dont know the thought process of how the schools are deal with this in the "new" traffic rule era.
Maybe. The Texas school OP is asking about is definitely MSTP, since all of their MD onlys now go through TMDSAS, with Baylor finally making the switch this cycle.Might be only MSTP just a guess
Sinai is having some internal changes these past few years. They made a big push for BS/MD over the past few years with the FlexMed program. However, there is a higher attrition rate generally from these students (nearly 5% nationally) and I believe the school is having concerns with that. Again my passing on "gossip" so to speak
