I have been accepted into dental school but this semester I got a D in Anatomy. I have tried to talk to the dental school but no one answers their phones or email so I'm guessing they are on vacation.
Does anyone know what this will do? Their website says "satisfactorily completed" and I'm guessing that does not mean D, but I do have a high GPA (Science 3.7, overall 3.83) and did well on the DAT (20).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most schools expect a grade of no lower than a 'C' in prerequisite courses. I would guess that a retake is necessary. Sorry.

Since when is anatomy a prerequisite for all dental schools?

it depends on the school

I know, which is why I said all dental schools.

If I were the OP I would try to audit that class as P/F if its not necessary at his DS or graduation requirement.

i wouldn't sweat it too much because it's most likely not a prerequisite class. It does look bad, but you have solid stats, I personally can't imagine they would rescind an acceptance.

What happened? Were you just busy with interviews? I personally got C's this semester and mostly attribute it to interviews.

As long as you sent a well articulated email, I would leave it at that and let them respond when the school reopens...most likely Jan 2nd.

Good luck!

I never said it was a prerequisite for all dental schools. I said most schools require a grade of 'C' or better. I guess I just assumed that if the school's website told him he needed to satisfactorily complete his class, that it was a prerequisite. I haven't seen a school website that says students must satisfactorily complete coursework that is not a pre-req.

Indiana and Midwestern both have anatomy as a pre-req. Those are the only two I know off the top of my head.

Anatomy is a prerequisite at this school 🙁

Think I'm looking at taking it next semester with a different teacher. This guy kept saying "I'll leave that for you to explore on your own" about all the hard subjects. Sorry, I can't really teach myself anatomy.... ugh

they will retract their offer to you, a D is unacceptable. how do you get a D? you have good stats, you seem like a good student? You might of blown your chance this year for acceptance

Anatomy is all about memorizing so yes, it is not so hard to teach yourself....

I doubt they would retract their offer without giving you a chance to retake, but you will have to retake that course. Best of luck and hopefully you turn it around!

Just talk to the school. A friend of mine failed a upper year bio, and yet he still got in. 👍

Clearly this is a fluke in your grades, and not the normal trend. While I can't say you're not at risk of losing your acceptance, I think as long as you talk to the school ASAP after break and explain the situation and that you're retaking it next semester, you've still got a fairly good chance. Stuff happens, and I think they may understand that. I had to put a D on my academic update right before one of my interviews, and I still got in.

Why'd you blow it on this course? Guess you better start getting ready to re-submit your application come May!

sorry

There is always next year

Why do you guys think he has to wait til next year? The pre-reqs have to be done prior to matriculation (not necessarily this semester)...so he can still retake it during spring semester. The only down side to getting a D this semester is the GPA drop, other than that...he can take it in the spring, pass it, and matriculate in the fall.

To the OP, retake the class and you should be okay. Good luck!
