I just received my first "C" in my undergraduate career and am going to apply to dentistry school the next upcoming cycle. I now have a 3.9 overall GPA and a DAT score of 18.

Will this ruin my chances of getting into dentistry school? Did anyone get a "C" and still get into dentistry school?

Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I got a C in Physics and still got into dental school. C's aren't the end of the world. Plus your overall GPA is amazing. I wouldn't worry about it.

I got 2 Cs and a C+ in the gen chem classes and got accepted. You've got nothing to worry about.

I have at least 5 C's and a failed class and got into 2 schools! I'd worry about your DAT scores more.

Two C's in undergrad. Will not keep you back. If your app is holistically decent then you have a good chance.

BTW, who has a 3.9 with a C? That's ridiculous.

Two C's in O Chem and C+ in BioChem. I was accepted into a couple schools as well. Up your community service hours, play a sport if you can. Set yourself apart from every other applicant. I talked to a couple professors at different schools and they all told me the same thing - differentiate yourself from the other candidates. The best advice I heard from one of the professors I spoke with, "Anyone can get a 4.0 gpa if all they do is study. However, not everyone can get a 3.4, compete in sports, serve the community, and juggle all those activities. GPA's can be tailored and cheated, an individual cannot." I took his advice and was accepted right away. I have a buddy who got a 24 AA with a 4.0 gpa, he was not accepted.

Cs in freshman economics and pre-calc. D in gen chem (retook it and got an A). Still got in.

But for real, your GPA will mean nothing with that 18AA. You need to retake the DAT.

What happens if you receive a C after applying? Do we have to give schools the fall semester grade update soon or can we wait until the end of the year?

If you are accepted you only need to submit the final transcript I believe. If you did not get in by Dec. 1st, use the academic update feature on AADSAS and send your fall grades (if they are good hahah).

I had 2 C+s in English courses and I was accepted to a few places. 18 DAT will definitely hurt you.

I received 4 C's in Bio classes, and one of those was even a C minus!!!! *sarcastic gasp* Anyways I was accepted to UCLA w/ a 3.5. Don't worry, the first one hurts the most. But really, focus on everything else besides ur GPA at this point. 3.9 is ridiculously high. Congrats!

Thank you everyone for the feedback; I thought my life was crumbling for a second there, haha.
I definitely will be retaking the DAT to score in the 20s, knowing what I know now.

I would've felt that way if I screwed up my last semester. Pm me if you wanna talk about retaking the DAT 🙂. I'm very jelly of that GPA haha
