Hello,

So I just graduated with my B.S. in human biology and psych minor (ik everyone seems to get this minor 😛) with a 3.45c/3.2-3.3s gpa. I got my A.A. degree in high school so I was able to graduate a year early. I was originally PT intended and have done approximately 150 job shadow/volunteer hours along with lots of other volunteer projects that were not MD/DO related but science/medical related. However after my last few job shadowing experiences I've become less and less inclined and am seriously considering jumping into the med school shark tank. My mother is an internal medicine MD so don't worry she has given me plenty of lectures about what an insane choice I'm considering. I'm planning on retaking the class I got my only C in (statistics funnily enough) and going through the organic chemistry sequence since that wasn't required for my degree or for the PT route. I was thinking about how to get a job to gain experience in the med field and I was considering a phlebotomist. Since 1) they can work in hospitals and 2) you have to take two quarters of medical terminology for the program I'm interested in. I was also considering taking a biochemistry class because that seems to be a common pre-req. Hopefully these classes will help boost my gpa since I won't be taking a full course load/working full time and should be able to get good grades with more time available. I would take the MCAT after finishing these classes so I can fully prepare (don't worry I realize this will all take 2-3 years but I'm 21 so taking some time off before grad school doesn't bother me). I was also planning on volunteering about 4 hours a week at a local hospital (since that's all they'll let me do) and tutoring the pre-nursing students in my area in A&P/Psych since I aced all of those classes (mostly so I have a job before I potentially go into phlebotomy). Of course I will job shadow some of the md's and do's I know and most likely get some good recommendations considering I've known them since I was born and I'm best friends with all of their children. With all that said and done hypothetically if I study my butt off and get at least a 30 on MCATs but hopefully higher what are my chances at getting into a decent DO program/ low tier to mid tier MD program? I'm not opposed to going the international route in Ireland/Poland/Australia but I REALLY want to avoid Caribbean med school if at all possible. I'm really not interested in going to a research med school either since I haven't done serious resume worthy research and I don't have the drive to do any. Will that be a deal breaker for a non-research based med school or will they care? Is there anything else I should be adding to my plan or things I should be removing from my plan? Oh I'm also part native Alaskan (they gave me scholarships to pay for the undergrad years), I don't know if that makes a difference at all for my chances but I thought I would throw it out there in case anyone knows. All advice is appreciated, thank you!
