I am an overthinker and constantly run things over in my head, and anxiety over whether or not I have a solid chance is killing me. Family and friends constantly say "I know you'll get in," but I want an honest, unbiased review of my story from people who understand the process.
UG- began at a small public school where I was nearly failing. I dropped out in my junior year and joined the military. I completed my degree at a public Ivy with a cGPA of 3.6. Unfortunately, I took so many credits at first that it was mathematically impossible to improve my cGPA more.
Currently in the last semester of an SMP at a T50 medical school.
MCAT 513: CP 126, CARS 131. BB 128, PS 128
Hispanic male, First Generation citizen from a developing nation. Grew up in an underserved area in the South.
8,000+ clinical hours. Nearly a decade in healthcare Split between military service and civilian jobs in a variety of clinics and specialties.
Currently working full-time as a research coordinator. No pubs yet but a second authorship paper submitted
not really any shadowing but I worked in the following clinics at one point:
GI/Endoscopy, Derm, Primary care, EM.
Volunteering with PPH roughly 6 hours a week for the past year
Army medic for 7 years, achieved the rank of sergeant with various leadership roles, awards, and distinctions.
Red flags:
Underaged alcohol misdemeanor in 2016
Academic probation pre-army
School list TBD but hoping MD with a roughly 10-50-40 split of reach-mid-lower tier schools
Thank you for reading!
