Vanderbilt's SOM + Office of Diversity recently sent an email encouraging me to apply, but this late into the application cycle, is it even still advisable to send them my primary (I know they screen secondaries), or perhaps they were referencing the next application cycle in June 2018? Or perhaps it's just an email sent to all individuals? I value all your feedback, thank you!

I got the same email from them man. Not saying it doesn't signify that maybe your stats fell in the range they selected to auto apply to, but IMO it doesn't really mean anything. If you've got the time and cash for a secondary why not, if not, you're at a pretty big disadvantage by this time of year anyway.

This is common this point of cycle. i had advisors asking about this recently with various schools. Schools may have money to recruit and for some FA for URM or disadvantaged. Are you even in the low ball park for GPA/MCAT? if not, forget it. If somewhere in middle, I would consider it low probability but if you have AMCAS verified for the few bucks additional, it may be worth the start

Thank you for your input, I'm within "striking" distance, it's helpful to have this advice!

I got it too. But I don't think I'm gonna follow through because I'm definitely not competitive enough for Vandy (LM 70 with an MCAT 3 points lower than their 10th percentile).

If you look through the Vandy thread, it looks like there were some glitches with the email distribution system, causing lots of spam about applying to reach a ton of people, including people like me who already applied and completed their secondary. I don't think you were screened for that email.
