so ive asked one of my science teachers from last semester for me to write a rec. He said he would be happy to also said he doesnt know me well so he could talk mostly about the course. I dont really have any other options other than to get recs from prof next semester right before apply. what should i do? should I give him my resume and like a essay on why i want to become a doctor so he can write more about me? also whats the best way to collect rec to submit? is it through a website?

I'd recommend running spellcheck on your title next time.

If your essay is as convoluted as this post, my recommendation would be to find another field of study.

While it's not ideal to have anything less than a very strong recommendation letter, if you think this professor is your last hope, just ask him to write a letter for you. If, next semester, you develop a good relationship with another professor, then you can ask that professor to write you a letter and use that instead, but it never hurts to have a back up. That the professor is willing to write you a letter at all is very nice of him.

As for how to collect letters--first, check if your school has a letter of recommendation 'packet' service. This is different from a committee letter (although if they have a committee service, you really need to go through that instead). My school had a packet service, and that was very easy as the professor just had to send their letter to the office. If not, look into services like Interfolio and VirtualEval.

Agree with this - when I was getting ready to apply, I asked various people to write me recommendation letters. Then when I finally submitted my application and assigned letters to schools, I chose the ones that I thought would be strongest for each school. It doesn't hurt to have some back-up letters just in case someone later on is unable/unwilling to write one.

No need to be rude, we are all family 🙂

Something else you could try is just make an effort to get to know the professor better between now and when you apply. Find something that you think both interests you, maybe find an interesting new article that is related to the topic of the course he teaches and you can casually stop by their office hours to chat.. stuff like that which can help maintain a good relationship. Even if the professor just gets to know you better as a person, it can certainly help your letter. If possible, you could even try taking another course with them in the spring.
