I'm at work and the doctor is gone, so it's a slow day. I'm listening to Pandora, one of my favorite pastimes, and I have started wondering... what kind of music do you guys listen to?

So, here's the deal: post 1-3 songs that you think everyone on this forum should listen to at least once. Any more than 3 and it's bound to get overwhelming, so try and choose your favorites... it might be hard.

Personally, I have to think about it for a bit, but I'll be back with mine.

Okay, ready, set... go! 😉

I LOVE pandora!! I am listening to it right now! I also noticed your MGMT quote there! GREAT band! I am listening to my MGMT station on pandora as a matter of fact!

I don't know if others will like my music tastes...but here goes!

1) "Rebellion (Lies)" by Arcade Fire
2) "L.E.S. Artistes" by Santogold
3) "D.A.N.C.E." by Justice

argghh only 3 twelvetigers?! I have so many more!! I love anything by Justice though, they're one of my fav bands. I saw them in concert just recently. I like the Silversun Pickups too. I can't pick my 3 favorites, I like all different stuff, those are just 3 that came to mind.

Hmm...OK. Three? These have no connection except for 'awesome'.

1. Car Crash - Matt Nathanson
2. Start Wearing Purple - Gogol Bordello
3. PCR song - OK, so it's from an advertisement. But EVERYONE NEEDS TO LISTEN because it's great and I've had it in my head for the past three weeks straight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5yPkxCLads
4. A Little Respect - Erasure (for the actual number 3)

I'm listening to a Walter Meego station right now. 🙂

I know one of my three songs already, so I'll post it:

Girl and the Sea - The Presets

I love Arcade Fire!
I don't love Gorgol Bordello, but one of my BFFLs does, so I can hear her singing that song in my head right now. Lol.

"Electric Feel"- MGMT
"Weight of the World"- Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
"This is tha Carter"- Lil Wayne 😛

Okay, this is going to be hard.

1.)"Jeremy" by Pearl Jam (Anything by Pearl Jam could be on my list, but since I have to choose one I will go with one of their first hits. By the way they're re-releasing "Ten" this month for any PJ fans!)

2.)"Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve (this song has always helped me to mellow out, and it just has a great melody)

3.)I have a tie here since I can't decide what should fill this slot.

"Ants Marching" by Dave Matthews Band (I defy anyone to not get pumped up for the day after listening to this song)

"Only Wanna Be With You" by Hootie & the Blowfish (I absolutely have to include Hootie being an SC native. Besides, this song is just really catchy)

I taught my boss to use Pandora a couple of months ago, but he didn't like it becuase he couldn't think of any songs he liked.

So here are my three:
1. "The modern leper"- Frightened Rabbit
2. "While you were sleeping"- Elvis Perkins
3. "Sweet Jane"- The Velvet Underground

I guarantee enjoyable listening.

3...geez. I'll just pick three random songs from my most-played songs on iTunes.

1. Baba O'Riley - The Who
2. Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups
3. Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon

But I'll listen to anything, from Brand New to Wyclef.

I like the Silversun Pickups too. I can't pick my 3 favorites, I like all different stuff, those are just 3 that came to mind.

Don't worry, got you covered!

Wow 3 songs...jeez.

1. Cathedrals - Jump Little Children (if you like them then check out Requium!)

2. Mess - Ben Folds Five

3. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

4. (because i'm cheating) Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel

Wow, are we the same person? Cathedrals and Mess are both amazing beyond words (as are the other 2 of course). So glad someone already mentioned them since it frees up my top 3 a bit! 😉

1. Happier - Guster
2. Landed - Ben Folds
3. Let Me Go - Cake

although my list could go on for days, really...

Family Reunion, by Kid Sister Feat. David Banner
Mezzanine, by Massive Attack
Future Foe Scenarios, by The Silversun Pickups

YOU STOLE MY SILVERSUN PICKUPS SONG! GRRRR!! I wanted to post Lazy Eye!

lol, j/k (but only a little)

Nope, House is Teardrop. That's a good one too.

Family Reunion, by Kid Sister Feat. David Banner
Mezzanine, by Massive Attack
-->> Future Foe Scenarios, by The Silversun Pickups <<--

I changed my mind though! There is already one Silversun song, go listen to Speedhorn by the Noisettes instead. Seriously. It's pretty awesome.

Wow I can't believe I found someone else on here that knows about JLC.

I was going to post a Guster song too! If I had it would have been Careful.

1. "Garbage" - Bill Steele / Pete Seeger
2. "Lincoln Portrait" - Aaron Copland (any version, although I recommend the one with narration by James Earl Jones)
3. "The Elements" - Tom Lehrer

or

3. "How Blue Can You Get" - B.B. King

or

3. "21 Is Gonna Be A Good Year / What About the Boy" - The Who (the most recent cast album has the best version)

Sorry! That's 5 - and only a small # of what i could list. 🙂

Oh my god! I love Arcade Fire and Okkervil River. Although if I had to pick songs from them I would choose "Wake Up" and "A King and a Queen" respectively.

Now that I put my input on that, I'll choose my three! 🙂

1. "Tables and Chairs"-- Andrew Bird
2. "Play Crack the Sky"-- Brand New
3. "A Flatline Blur"-- Kevin Devine

I'm going to cheat and pick more because they're from Phoenix like me:

"Wait, Wait, Wait"-- The Format
"Sweet Talk"-- Dear and the Headlights

Oh, and just for laughs:

"Mutha'uckas"-- Flight of the Conchords 😛 (I think you have to watch the show to find this funny, actually!)

I definitely stretched my three into eight... Sorry! 🙄

Only THREE! Your killing me here...because it really depends on my mood what Im listening to the most. Okay here are some of my all time favs.. thats the best I can do.

1. Down in a hole-Alice in Chains

2. A Beautiful Lie- 30 Seconds to Mars

3. Never Say Never- Romeo Void

Make that three JLC listeners - though my favorite is "Mexico" 🙂

That's so awesome that there are so many JLC fans out there! I have seen them numerous times in concert in Charleston and was distraught when they broke up as a group. I used to see Matthew Bivins walking around in downtown Charleston all the time and even have a signed CD and one of Evan's drumsticks from a concert! 😀

ok, I have to say that I really hate the Arcade Fire. 😛 No offense!
Three songs is really hard!

My three are:
1. After the Party Ends by Saturday Looks Good To Me
2. Naked Girl by The Velvet Teen
3. Why Did We Ever Meet by The Promise Ring

Correction: the song is "When the Party Ends" by Saturday Looks Good to Me.

Also, I haven't listened to JLC much. One of my friends from studying abroad was good friends with some of the guys in the band, though. She was always saying nice things about them. 🙂

Okay, I have to say that reading these post is making me feel ANCIENT! I consider myself a fairly diverse connoiseur of music but I have NO idea who any of these artists/songs are except Mezzanine by Massive Attack which I didnt know who it was except Im a HUGE HOUSE fan.

PS I know the WHO, the verve, DMB and Coldplay are too, Im not a complete shut-in

Hey LVT2DVM, I'm glad to see someone also included a little Alice in Chains in the mix. Their MTV unplugged album is amazing, especially "Rooster". Don't feel bad though, I have no idea who half of these artists are as well, but I mainly stick to Grunge Rock and the Classics. I do know who Jump Little Children are, and though I have no taste for them, my girlfriend as always enjoyed their music.

Anything by Coheed and Cambria is good

Breaking Benjamin: Dance with the Devil, Had Enough, Home

you think you feel ancient? I don't know any of these groups (except, obviously, The Who . . . Coldplay sounds familiar . . . and the ones that ImaJerseyGirl listed!)

Swoon!

Matt Bivins is my boyfriend!! well my imaginary boyfriend. I've seen them in concert a bunch of times in NYC and talked to them a few times. Did you get their DVD? I loved the skits...Super Sleepingbag Man and Matt Bivins...SCIENCE!

1. Just A Dream - Carrie Underwood
2. Leave Out All the Rest - Linkin Park
3. Shadowland - Heather Headley (The Lion King on Broadway Original Soundtrack)

My library's pretty much all over the place.

Other recommendations: Rascal Flatts, Lonestar, Diamond Rio, LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift, Chris Cagle, Nickelback, Maroon 5, Panic! At The Disco, and Daughtry. Plus others, but I think I've cheated enough 😉

wowz- my sister kept telling me that people outside chuck liked JLC, but I guess I never really believed it until now....

My three are rather eclectic.

1. refuse/resist-- Apocalyptica version... they just put so darned much energy into it... And they're pretty.

2. Hot girl in the Comic Shop -- tripod, tho near anything by them is brilliant.

3. I left my heart in San Fransisco -- Dean Martin (mine is live... and so tasty.)

drat you and your evil limits of three... no room for HIM!

It would be extra cool if you guys listed the genre of some lesser-known bands, so we can check it out if we are into that stuff 🙂

I guess since I have to pick three
1. Symphony no. 9 in E-minor (IV movement) - Dvorak
2. The Times They Are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan (I think Watchmen has kind of reinforced my love for this song)
3. The Impression That I Get - Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Hmmm... that means figuring out a genre...

Apo could technically be rock, but since it's on a cello....

Tripod is pure comedy

and dean martin just is.

oooh- can I have an alternate..? I totally forgot Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something.

If you like indie music, I would recommend this site: http://www.rcrdlbl.com/
I've found a lot of good stuff there; no good underground rap though 🙁 It was finding this band ( http://www.rcrdlbl.com/artists/Mammt/music ) that made me start browsing the site. Have no idea what they are saying though, lol.

Oh, and A Kid Sister track came out today too, and I love her!

Loved their MTV unplugged set! That settles it, I HAVE to get into UGA and be in class 2013 just so I have someone else who appreciates the classics. AIC absolutely got me through my technician program. The soundtrack of my life. Wouldnt think of going thru VS without them.

Pachelbel's Canon in D--any version will do;

One by U2--the cover by Mary J. Blige is fine if you prefer;

Drift Away by Dobie Gray--the Uncle Kracker cover is not an acceptable substitute for the original

omg great taste..
even the muthauckers🙂
I also like Buisness Time though if we are talking Flight of the Conchords

Ringtone is still Jesus Christ by Brand New- great song
Rock out to John Ralston or Margot and the Nuclear So & So's if you have the time

What a great thread... I love being introduced to new music! Music is my ultimate coping mechanism... right now I am on inspirational fixes.

1. Cheesy inspirational: Don't Stop Believing - Journey
2. Happy inspirational: What is the Light? - The Flaming Lips
3. Passionate inspirational: The Patient (w/ Eon Blue Apocalypse intro) - Tool

Hope you guys enjoy!

Great thread! I've been sitting here previewing all the songs on iTunes for the past half hour =) Even discovered a new MGMT song I love, and that my boyfriend apparently has way better music taste than I because he's already got a bunch of these songs!

Here are my 3 contributions, with the warning that I am SO NOT as indie-chic as most of you people!

1. "Winter" - Joshua Radin (I love this man)
2. "Skinny Love" - Bon Iver
3. "Silver Lining" - Rilo Kiley

And Ingrid Michaelson can get me through pretty much any super-stressed vet-school-induced depression that may wash over me...

Oh my gosh! Yes to Bon Iver. My brother told me about this guy recently... he's always hearing about good, new music because apparently they actually have good indie radio in Portland, unlike here in Phoenix. Good choice! 🙂

Wow! I've never felt so out of touch with music lol. I've never heard of the vast majority of these groups (but downloading as we speak!) Are a lot of these indie music? If so, that would explain why Im so out of the loop.

1. Matt Kearney-America

2. Damien Rice- Cannonball

3. Should've Been A Cowboy- Toby Keith

Cuitlamiztli, good to see another country fan!🙂
