Hello,

So I am thinking about applying this year using the AMCAS. However, I am only a 1st year transfer student and haven't completed many upper-div bio courses. Enrolled as a psychology major. As of now, I only have genetics and an exercise biology course completed. I wanted to know, besides taking biochem. How many other upper-div biol classes should I take before applying?

Try a molecular biology or genetics course, that would work well with your pathology major. Seminars where you read lots of primary literature are preferable, and also more fun I think.

Dear god no molecular is the hardest class I've ever taken.

Try physiology classes and some lighter structural biochemistry classes or pharmacology. Microbiology and biochem labs are easy too. Might as well finish your ochem, physics, and math series as well.

Biowise, I'd recommend taking some kind of upper division human physiology, if your school offers it. Alternatively, comparative vertebrate physiology was an interesting class (though obviously not as relevant, it was still useful)

FWIW...I was a lib arts major and took only the standard mandatory pre reqs - I took none of the "recommended" courses, not even biochem...5 acceptances, including 2 very competitive schools (UVA and NYU)...

If you need to boost your BCPM, then at least seek out the "easier" upper level classes.
