I was completing the NYMC secondary and they require a LOR from the department of major 🙄 . I am a non-science major and I have recs from 2 science profs, 1 humanities, and the premed committee. I really don't know who I can ask within my major (CS). They will be sent as a package from my school's committee. Do I still need to get a LOR from my major? Do other schools require this? Thanks.

🙁

I think they require it. Or at least at my school the pre-med committee required it, because they made me hunt down a major prof. Good luck!

I feel your CS pain. Let me guess: many students, few professors, and gigantic lecture classes.

I guess if they require it, they require it. That's what I love about Minnesota: they ask for four letters. There's no breakdown of who needs to write them. I suspect they realized it's more important to get letters from people who really know the candidate than from a bunch of people who happen to have taught the candidate.

yeah many schools I applied to require a letter from your department. A good bet would be to have your TA write it and maybe your professor can sign it. That's if you don't know your professors too well. Good luck !

Actually much smaller classes than science courses, even had the same prof for 2 years or so but I can't imagine asking them to write a LOR for med school, they think I like computers probably 🙁
