Hey all,

Quick tip for recommendation letters. Be sure to ask your writer to include your AMCAS ID# in the letter, include the institution/department letterhead, and provide his/her signature. Turns out, some of my recommendation writers didn't do this, so I had to contact them again. Hope this helps!

If there is a problem, is it easy for letter writers to reupload their letters?

I found out after receiving an email from the admissions office. Apparently, this a common problem with applicants. Some writers didn't use letterhead, some didn't sign it, and others didn't do either. Some med schools don't mind. Others do.

I used Interfolio to collect my letters, so I just sent my writers a email request & then a new upload link. This is not a particularly difficult process for writers, but it is certainly an inconvenience for them.

So, my advice to you all is to be sure to mention these things in advance when asking for a letter. In addition to letterhead and signature your AMCAS/AACOMAS ID number should be in the letter.

Also, the writer's full name, contact info, and specific position in addition to institution... (e.g. Assistant Clinical Professor, Director of Inpatient Orthopaedics Surgery, etc.).
