recommendation letter from research???

is it helpful for adm to get recommendation letter from research in polymer science as i m working as a reserach asisstant in poymer scince (for cosmetics) .but i m confused it will have negative or positive effect as we r doctor so interviewer might think that reserch work in dentistry is not useful.but thinking other way it may be helpful as it is also a experince & here people give lot of importance to experince.
any suggestion please????
