Recommender not on activities section

My current recommenders are 1)my undergrad college of science dean 2) my grad advisor and prof 3) my grad colleague and mentor 4) my current employer (I'm a MH therapist) and 5) my last research position supervisor.

#2-4 will be amazing LORs. #1 and 5 will be good. I'd like to kick #5 out because it was a short project, and its not really medically associated. So I wanted to get a clinical supervisor in there. I've done a lot of clinical work- but I work in international health- so they are all hard to get recs from. I sent 2 letters out to west african hospitals and one to Afghanistan. I have 0 faith in the Afghanistan one coming back, but some that the one in WAfrica will. I have those foreign ones, which would kick a$$ but if they don't come through should I have someone that I shadowed for only 1.5 weeks (but every shift over xmas break) write a LOR? He'll do it. He's a family friend. It will be stellar- I just don't know how meaningful...And, I wasn't going to list that as an EC, because it was so short lived (good experience though 🙂 )

getting more than 5 is ridiculous IMO.

i had to limit myself to 3 in a lot of apps. don't know why you would need more than 5.

wish I was a gunner... jk. I was going to apply last year then changed my mind for a slew of reasons- but I got my current employer at the time to write a rec. thats the #5 that I want to eliminate... It was a good job in which I did really well- but the recommender is a poli-sci prof so I'd like to get rid of him.

I actually had to submit 5 for a single application since I don't have a premed committee. I have 7 LORs just because of different applications asking for different things (ie, DO physicians will only be for my DO apps). I wouldn't call myself a gunner.

OP, I am a little concerned that you don't have any professors. That seems to be a major requirement for most schools- the 2 science, 1 nonscience is very common. Are you nontrad? I see that you have your undergrad dean, so I'm guessing you're not that far out of undergrad. But if you are, then I wouldn't be worried that the EC isn't listed on AMCAS. You seem like you have many strong writers already. Relax.

I am nontrad and I do have 2 profs. I'm 3.5 years out of undergrad. 1.5 out of grad. My dean of my undergrad college of science was my micro bio prof. My advisor at Yale was one of my profs for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Intervention. My mentor was also a classmate- she's an MD (MFM/Obgyn) but was doing her MPH with me. So we had classes together, worked together, researched together, traveled together, I shadowed her for funzies, used her office to write my thesis, she copied my Enviro Health notes...they should be solid recs. I don't have the committee letter so I should have 5-7 solids and ask my health professions advisor which ones are stronger since I waive my right to see them??? There are certain ones that go to certain schools bc they are alum or fac, but other than that strongest ones go every time, right!?
