Hey guys I've recieved a few emails from schools asking me to apply and saying that I'm a competitive applicant based on my MCAT. I was just wondering how common this is and if its just a way for them to make some more money or if there is really any stock to be taken in these emails.
Thanks again!=]

it's only legit if the email came from harvard

I remember these from undergrad. From Podunk school to ivy league. Probably a way to lower their acceptance rate/ make money.

I know someone who got a rejection email after submitting the secondary and then within a few hours got an email telling them to apply to their school. It's just fo $$$

That's what I figured, thanks for the advice everyone

It's true. I got a very nice snail mail letter from Harvard, gave them $100 and never heard from them again. Luckily I had the good sense to ignore the other emails after that first one, but I was really flattered to get a letter from Harvard.

I don't think its for money, at least not outright. I remember getting them during my first time applying and then I decided to follow up on the school. I talked to the diversity/outreach head of the dept and kept up communication with the school. I ended up getting an interview despite being OOS. While it didn't fully pan out, I still think its worth following up with the school that sends those emails.

Just my .02

I hate these. I got one in my email the other day from a school with a slightly similar name to a school I'm waiting for an interview invite at. It got my hopes up for half a second.
