I am looking for a general review book to study for the psych boards; i already have question and answer books. After searching through amazon i feel a bit overwhelmed and not sure which book to choose.
I also saw now there 's a first aid for the psyc boards, i remember first aid was the 'go-to' book when studying for step I. anyone have any experience with this book, or can recommend one study review book (not a question book as I already have spiegel and focus). Please don't recommend any textbooks cause I doubt I will read and remember the whole thing; i need a review book
thanx

You posted about this before, though maybe you don't remember the thread or my advice was not helpful (no sarcasm meant). I'm posting this just in case it was helpful but you don't remember the previous thread.

I got the Kaufman notes from a friend who took the course. Were they useful? Yes--too useful. It taught you how to pass the test. It focused so much and so well on that, I felt it didn't teach psychiatry or neurology much.

Beat the Boards--the psychiatry section was very well done. I wasn't very happy with the neurology section. One thing is has that's better than the Kauffman material was that it taught the subjects well.

The best question source I know of is the book Psychiatry Test Preparation by Spiegel. It has questions which were accurate to the test, very good explanations, and its well written.

MGH was good, though it also had several chapters in it that I felt were either not on the board exam at all or was extremely low yield.

Kaplan and Sadock--forget about it. None of its questions were in the board format, and it tells you go to define words no one uses today, nor is on the board exam such as "forme fruste" or "delusional depression."

lol, i do remember the thread and your post was very helpful; i will be taking the kaufman neuro course, though i'd rather not cause it's so expensive; but as far as a psyc review book that i can buy on amazon i'm clueless. There are like 3 study guide/review books for the psyc boards that are on amazon that i'm not sure which to get. Then i heard about psychiatry in review---the book ($95); anyone know if that is any good??

I guess i could also take the psyc portion of the kaufman course as well as the neuro but would prefer to save the money

And for neuro, if you don't 'take the kaufman course, how do people memorize that whole kaufman textbook--that's insane
