It is better to have long-term EC activities. That shows that you're not cramming it all in one semester.

I don't have much of a choice considering I am starting this late. The past is the past, there isn't much I can do at this point except try.

It is very little. However, it won't stop you from getting accepted at least somewhere. Where are you planning to apply to?

Oh, you have a good chance then. Just get a 21+ on the DAT, and do well on all your sciences for the DAT.

a bike volunteer (teaching kids and adults how to bike and participating in city events)

I'm genuinely jealous of you. This sounds awesome!

But regarding your question, do you have any research experience? I know my EC's weren't too strong, but my research was something brought up at all my interviews.

Meh... you're not in a great position, but it isn't impossible. If you consistently log nine hours a week between now and mid June, you have a fighting chance. Some schools care more about ECs than others. If a school is heavily involved in community outreach and likes their applicants to do likewise, it might not be your best bet.

Do you really have no ECs? No clubs, no volunteering, no research?

From another thread of OP, that seems to be the case.

I second what @Meat Gyver said. Research is a big deal because I was asked about it in my interviews.
If you plan to submit your AADSAS in mid July, will you have your shadowing hours (100+) done by then? One of your LORs must be from a dentist (the one you shadow). Time wise, that means you should start shadowing very soon so that you give the dentist enough time to get to know you and write your LOR.

I am planning to apply to 22 schools. Mostly the ones in the Northeast that are OOS friendly. I am a NY resident.

I think you'll have a fairly good chance at NYU. I was with an applicant who had top notch scores but 0 ec on my interview day. This was a pre-dec interview. However, I don't know how he did with other schools.

I wouldn't say I have top notch gpa, but I plan to wow a bunch of schools with my DAT scores. I would say my test taking skills are quite good, but only time will tell how well I do. Thanks for sharing that with me, I feel better with each reply on these forums!

I didn't read your previous post about not shadowing a dentist. I would definitely shadow a dentist before you apply. You will most likely not get any interviews if you don't have shadowing experience. You need a letter from a dentist anyways for the application process.

I shadowed specialists, just not a general dentist. If you guys think it will be such a big issue I will have to force time into shadowing one then. I already have a LoR from a prostho, so I don't think its necessary to get another LoR from a GP.

I didn't have a LOR from anyone in the dental profession, and managed just fine. I think you're good with the LOR from a Prostho. Some supplementary essays might ask you about your shadowing, and if you don't shadow a GP before the cycle opens, you can explain to them that you are expecting to.

Really? Wow, was it hard finding schools that didn't require that?

I think UIC was the only school (out of the 6) I applied to that "highly recommended" a LOR from a dentist. I would still recommend people to get a LOR from a dental professional (it just so happened that my top schools didn't have strict requirements)

Hi,

is it weird that I only did research from May to January? Then, it totally stopped from there.

I'm assuming you stopped because you didn't like it? No one will ask you about it. Just make sure you have other ECs that show persistence and longevity.

I don't think the graduate student like me. So, she decided to work by herself.

A 23 on the DAT is all the volunteering you'll need to get into dental school.

I am in the same boat as you!!! I have the exact same GPA, taking the DAT in the fall, and am also applying this summer.. I am beyond nervous because I also have little to no EC, but i have shadowed some dentists as well... hoping for the best for the both of us!!

Be aware that many schools won't consider your application without a DAT score. Waiting until fall may be mistake

even if I take it early august and get my application completed late june-early july?
