Seems like some folks are beginning to withdraw from schools despite a big chunk of merit aid that’s being offered. With that being said, will this scholarship go towards future students or the top students from the current class?

If it’s an endowed named award, it may get re-awarded or may just go to a student in the next cycle

If It’s an enrollment management award, then the school may have purposely overawarded knowing from past models that only X will actually accept. In those cases, declinations don’t usually result in re-awarding.

Agree. Most of this is an incentive to get you to sign. It is not real money and the hope is that enough, but not too many applicants take the offers.
