When adding reductions potentials, they give you an oxidizing equation and a reduction equation with potentials for both. Do you flip the sign of the oxidation potential when you add the two to get the total?

If the equation for the oxidation reaction is written as a reduction potential then you reverse it and put the opposite sign on the E value. If it is already written in the oxidized form, then leave it.

how do you know if its written in the oxidized form?

LEO (Loss of Electrons = oxidation) goes GER (Gain of Electrons = Reducation)
so if the starting molecule loses electrons...there you have it!
