I asked my anatomy prof to fill out the pharmcas form and write a letter and she said she did and mailed it about a month ago. Pharmcas never got it. So I asked her to send it again. I gave her the envelope, put stamps on it, wrote the address on it, and even wrote her return address on it. They still don't have it.

Has anyone had any trouble like this with? It could be a problem with Pharmcas, but I think it's probably my reference because she's always forgetting stuff and making excuses in for forgetting things in class.

This is really pissing me off. I wish she would have told me before that she wasn't going to do it instead of me waiting on her and wasting time.

I already have 2 reference letters sent to pharmcas so I can only have 1 more. I'm gonna have to delete her and ask someone else now. AHHH. 😡

Im having a similar problem. I asked a pharmacist to write a letter for me electronically. She said she would do it right away and it has been 6 weeks and she still hasnt completed it. I am thinking of calling her and asking her point blank if she is going to do it or not. I am starting to get frustrated with her.

Just tell your anatomy professor that they haven't received it via snail mail, and to try it electronically. It's actually much easier to do electronically than by snail mail, so maybe this option would be more convenient for her?

Maybe I'll do that. If that doesn't work, I'll go to her office and hold her hand while she writes it. That's about what it takes with some of these people.

Under the status for PharmCas, does it say "pending" or "incomplete"? When my prof did it incorrectly, it said "incomplete," insinuating that he sent/saved it but that it was not completely filled out. If it says pending, then that means they never bothered to save or send it...

Mine says Pending. I'm gonna delete this prof I think and ask someone else. I applied to one school that doesn't use pharmcas and asked this prof to send a letter to them too. Tomorrow I'm gonna call them and ask who they received letters from. If they say all but this prof, I'm gonna delete her ask ask someone else.

This really sucks because there's no way to know if the prof is lying to me and never sent the letter or if PharmCAS filed it incorrectly. Everytime I write an email or call PharmCAS I get the same guy. This is a such a pain in the ass. If we had nothing else to do besides track down letters then it wouldn't be a problem, but I have 3 bio classes and 1 math class now so I don't have time to waste on stupid stuff like this. AHHHHH.

I'm just being a little paranoid about the whole LOR thing because one of my professors emailed me back to tell me that the evaulation form was done. Now, that leads me to think that he only filled out the eval. form and didn't copy/paste or attach the letter of rec. (I think that way because he emailed me saying he couldn't log on, so I called him to figure out what the problem might be....turns out that he was logging onto the website under HIS OWN username/id. -_- ) So I logged onto PharmCas to check the status a few mins ago. It says "complete." Does that mean he did EVERYTHING, including attaching the LOR?

Have you tried to get her to do it electronically? Cus if you do it electronically, it'll show up right away if it's been received. Anyway, at this point, you probably just rather ask somebody else. I think it's a good idea that you're gonna call up the other school to find out your LOR status. 🙂 Good luck.

Not sure about "complete." When mine were done, they said "received" and had a date next to it when it was received. Is there a date in your received column?

Oh snap. Just kidding on the "complete" This whole thing is driving me nuts. It says "received" and dated today 10/26.

When Ihad a similar problem, I just deleted their name from pharmcas and resubmitted their name. This way pharmcas sends them another email regarding your reference. Its a nice way of reminding them that they havent done it yet. After one of my references got the second email from them, he emailed me and apologized for having not done it and he did it that day.

Plus you could send your reference a polite, naive email saying "have you gotten chance to send in the recommendation yet", (even though you know that they havent) hehehe

RLK, I had a similar situation this summer. My orgo chem prof verbally promised me an outstanding LOR. After 6 weeks of waiting and growing tired of waiting, I politely deleted him and asked my microbiology professor for one. The micro prof took care of it for me within a week. Didn't like switching, but got it done.

It's not worth hounding an unreceptive prof in my opinion. Others may be more receptive.

Yeah, that's how I feel now. I'll probably just delete her. I have someone else in mind anyway that I think will give me a good reference. I just can't figure out why she told me that she sent the letter, then told me she re-sent it when pharmcas didn't get it. Oh well, some people just suck I guess haha.

I am applying to vet school and I had horrible problems with my references also, two of them told me over and over that they had them almost done, that they just needed finishing touches, that it was in the mail, etc etc etc, and they never did them. I finally had to go to their offices and ask them in person to write it right then and there, because otherwise it wasn't going to happen!! I feel for you, because it is frustrating and time consuming.

I was browsing the optometry forum one day and saw how you were trashing the pharmacy profession and now you're applying?? Interesting........BTW, interesting analogy of how pharmacists are like minimum wage clerks at 7 eleven.

I just talked to the school that doesn't use pharmcas, and they haven't received the letter for this prof either. So, now I'm 100% sure that pharmcas hasn't lost it the letter. Today in class I should tell her thanks for wasting my time.

This is 2005, no need to be quoting 2 Live Crew unless that is the wittiest insult you can come up with.

In case you haven't realized it, some professors don't send the LOR if they don't think highly of the student. Perhaps this is your situation

It would be so much nicer if they would just tell you in the first place that they don't want to write one instead of lying to you and saying that they wrote one. I am applying to optometry school too. I applied there last year and didn't get in unfortunately, but applying again. Last year I asked my organic chemistry teacher to write a LOR. This lady sent me a Christmas card, but never wrote the letter for me.

Some people wrote them for me the same week and others were just a constant pain the butt. I guess I shouldn't get upset, but I do because I know these schools work on a rolling admissions, so the sooner I get everything in the better. Oh well. I'm gonna go try to be happy now. 🙄

So you want to be a pharmacist and an optometrist? Do you know what you want to be, or u will just be whichever admits you? no harm, just asking

many people have problems with their letters of recommendations...

our mods are trying to clean up everything around here and make the posting experience more enjoyable.

next time try a search and bumping old threads to keep down the clutter!

The mods are currently working hard at making sure each and every thread maintains on topic. We can all do them a favor by making sure we also remain on topic!

This thread has been hijacked and has since diminshed the quality of the discussion...

I know it can be difficult but in the future remain on topic

bbmuffin,

are you a mod? why are you such a downer? futureRXgal and bananaface are doing an EXCELLENT job as moderators. they are very positive when they make comments, but they also do well when it comes to putting people in their places if they are out-of-line.

you copying and pasting the same message over and over again do not help people in need of opinions and advice. your comments (pretty much on a lot of threads) take up space and discourage and upset already stressed-out people. a lot of people are newbies on this site or simply have a "personal" problem and want advice that relates to their "personal" situation. Some situations may sound the same to you, but some people may find comfort when people respond to their personal problem. if one is tired are reading the same thing over and over again, then he/she does not have to read it or reply to it. the whole point of this forum is to seek and share advice to whoever that needs it.

if the moderators want to place certain threads elsewhere, they do it. and again, they do an awesome job. they close threads or move them without being ugly to people.

As for RLK, good luck with the whole LOR stuff. I know it is a PAIN. But aren't you glad Pharmcas now copies those letters and sends them to all the schools w/o having to ask 100 teachers to sign one because you applying to a lot of schools.

I requested a recommendation from a pharmacist weeks ago and she can't seem to fill it out. I have e-mailed her several times about getting it done, and she can't seem to get it out. It is so frustrating because this is the only thing holding my freaking application up. Fill it OUT!!!! I may have to ask someone else out if she can't get it done.

what incompetence.... 😡

Do you have to submit the pharmcas application before the letters are sent electronically to your recommenders? I havent submitted yet, but I selected my recommenders a few weeks ago and the status has not changed from pending.

Emails are sent as soon as you add your references information.

As soon as you indicate who your LOR are coming from on PharmCAS an email is sent to them with instructions on how to electronically submit their letter. After they submit, the status changes from "pending" to "received", along with the date. One of my teachers was sooo slow, so I called PharmCAS and had them re-send the email. Sure enough, my recommendation was completed that afternoon. Sometimes teachers get swamped with other work, so if it has been a few weeks a little friendly reminder isn't rude at all. If thats the only thing holding up your application I would def get those recommenders moving! PharmCAS is VERY slow... much slower than I originally anticipated. GOOD LUCK :luck:
