On Stanford website it says:

"AMCAS also requires that your AMCAS Letter ID be provided on your letters. Visit their site and FAQ for more information about AMCAS Letters of Evaluation/Recommendation Service."

what do they mean by AMCAS letter ID? Does this get put on our letters if we send it through the AMCAS system?

Also, I've noticed that most schools do NOT REQUIRE a letter of recommendation from a non-science professor. I've looked at HMS, JHU, Yale, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, UNC, etc.

Which schools actually require a letter from nonscience? Thanks

the letter ID is automatically generated when you generate a letter request form. It links the form with your letter.

You'll have to check on each school's website for the nonscience--if they do require a nonscience, a lot of times they actually will require a nonscience OR committe/composite letter. If you have a committee/composite, you should be covered for science, nonscience, or any combo of those

Hi Thanks for the reply! I actually asked one of my professors for a letter BEFORE AMCAS for this year started. I also used Interfolio to get the letter. If I send Interfolio to AMCAS, will it automatically generate the AMCAS ID on the letter? If not, what are my choices?

No, at least not the way i understand it. On the letters section of amcas, you enter in the letter information. It will generate a letter request form which you then give to your professor (you can just email it to him). He can then send the form along with his letter to interfolio. make sense?

Hello. I am slightly confused. I plan on collecting all references in Interfolio first. What I've done so far is print out the Interfolio cover letter that has the ID number and give to the professor.

I didn't specify that I need him to write down my AMCAS ID number because I didn't know or have it at the time.

I think 2-3 schools that I looked into specifically said AMCAS ID must be present on the letter. However, I was wondering if AMCAS automatically labels all of your letters with the applican'ts AMCAS ID?

From what I understand, you are saying that AMCAS does NOT label applicants' letters with the ID number? Thanks!

no, your letter writer or whoever is submitting it on your behalf has to label it (not sure how they exactly do it, but they're the ones). just give them the letter request form and have them include it with your letter--they'll figure out the best way how

I also got my letters on interfolio (we are the smart ones btw b/c we already have our letters while everyone else is still scrambling/waiting). When you get ready to send your letters to AMCAS from interfolio you will have to fill out an AMCAS request form which assigns each letter an ID #. Then when you go to interfolio it will require you to enter the ID # for each letter before it is sent (Interfolio has this all worked out). Both your AMCAS ID # & your letter ID are associated to the letter when it arrives to AMCAS from interfolio. You have nothing to worry about 🙂

Hi guys,

My name is Mike and I actually work at Interfolio. With my insight into our processes and what I know about AMCAS, I hope that I can answer all of your questions. 👍

I'd like to build on what @rHinO1 is saying: "You have nothing to worry about". Our developers have created an efficient and streamlined method to deliver your recommendation letters directly to AMCAS.

For @organicmodel (and anyone else who is curious!) I've included a step-by-step to send your letters to AMCAS via Interfolio. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]!

In order for AMCAS to successfully process a document, you must send your AAMC ID with your delivery and include the correct AAMC Letter IDs for each document that you send.

Please follow these steps to send your documents to AMCAS:

1. Please check your AMCAS account and note all of your individual AMCAS letter IDs. You will need both this and your AMCAS applicant IDs to send your delivery successfully.

2. Log in to your Interfolio account. Navigate to your Account Settings and check the ID section. Make sure that your AAMC ID is entered and labeled correctly.

3. Create a delivery to AMCAS that includes all of the documents that you wish to send.

4. Step 3 in the delivery creation process enables you to include your AAMC ID in your delivery. You must do this in order for AMCAS to process your delivery.

5. Before you finalize your delivery, you will be asked to provide AAMC Letter IDs for each of the documents that you are sending. Please make sure these IDs are properly entered.

6. Complete your delivery transaction.

Cheers,
