I have a question about Regarding prometric centers break time policy.

I read few experiences where they claim reading FA during breaks or calling friends/family members or going outside prometric center for tea/snacks BUT in contrast to that i heard in Indian prometric centers they do not allow anything like reading usmle notes/FA/going out/phone calls during break time.

My question is why there is different policy for same organization ( prometric) across world. My question is purely based on experiences shared by members across usmle forums.

I am sure that in India ( Chennai or Hyderabad) as far as i know through my friends, we are NOT allowed to review notes or making calls ( they tell to swith off phones). JUST you are allowed to use locker to take out eatables/snacks and next allow to washrooms. Thats it.

Anyone here heard about both different policies like mentioned above

I took it in New York. I was not allowed to look at any materials or switch the phone on during breaks.

Thanks glykon.

Yes it was same situation across India ( just like your exam experience in NY ) but what about other centers across US where review of books or making calls is allowed.

Any other guys plz share your experience about this situation

It's not like you're going to gain yourself mad points reviewing between blocks, I wouldn't stress about it

+1...if anything it could mess with your head when you look up something and realize you answered the question(s) on the previous block wrong.

I could look at review books, but I never did. My break time was used solely as break time.

Based on Glykon feedback, it was clear that prometric NOT allowed to look at books during breaks

I took it in Texas. You could do whatever you want while on break time outside of the computer room (including looking at your phone/books).

Stellar Clouds experience was different, here it was clear that prometric allowed him to look at books/phone during breaks even though he did not used that flexibility

I appreciate your feedback loveoforganic2 ! but we are just discussing about whether prometric allows reviewing books or not ( Allow making calls or not or allows to go outside or not) .Gaining or loosing points by reviewing books during breaks is entirely different story and it will be examinee own personal decision , we can discuss that later in separate thread and . Some may gain advantage bcz of this policy.

Personally i wont review books during breaks bcz it may create some confusion and i can get panic unnecessarily, but it is entirely personal decision whether to review books or not

Based on above feedback's so far, some prometric centers allow and some do not allow but why this different policy for conducting same usmle exam. Others plz share your prometric center experience (while taking usmle) about reviewing books/making calls during breaks

you can call up prometric. they have a good service as far as answering questions are concerned.

maybe the test centres in your country are being overly cautious, when they have not been given specific instructions by usmle/ecfmg.

you may request prometric to give instructions to these centres.

It is not about particular country but also different prometric policy even with in same country (USA). Check above posts...NY prometric did NOT allowed where as Texas prometric allowed to review books during break time.🙂

Calling prometric will be a good idea but i just want to analyze the feedback from our friends here.

I don't understand why you care so much?

I think it differs from test center to test center. I also took it in the US and I was allowed to do whatever I wanted during breaks, including leaving the building. I don't think it's a big deal to try to figure out whether or why there's some "master policy." It doesn't really matter and if anyone's really curious they should just call their particular location to see what their particular test day is going to be like.

yea i got it and it may differ from center to center and off course it is not a big deal unless some student is more conscious about reviewing books during break time
