Regarding recent research experience.

I don't think you can add anything after ur app has been submitted; you can try calling your schools and let them know about your new gig, but I doubt it will alter your chance of getting in.
I think research is important to many schools. Ive been advised, at the end of fall, to write a nice letter about my research to schools at which I've interviewed. (In addition to submitting my fall grades.) I think you should find a way to let them know about it. Have u received interviews?

Yep, nyu and Howard only.
Hey shootingstar, who advised you to do that (an advisor, a professor, an adcom, a student)?I think research is important to many schools. I'm asking because I was advised not to do that (I wanted to find some way to talk about the research and volunteer experience I've had).
Thanks!

Really? Wow, crazy how we all receive such conflicting advice. It was my pre-health advisor. What about u?
I applied this cycle already, didn't have any research put down in my app, but had recently landed a gig as a lab assistant. Is there anyway I can add this into my app?
So you haven't done any concrete research yet?... And you want to tell them that?
my p.i., who is a professor at a dental school. he's on the adcom for the orthodontics program and told me that it's "brown-nosing". but he's also really snarky and sassy, which is prob not the norm for adcoms haha. i still think it's a good idea but i'm prob not going to do it since research isn't my strong point anywayReally? They already know that. In fact, all they know regarding research experience is that he doesn't have any. Anyway, it may be brown-nosing, but the squeaky wheel usually gets the grease right? I say, if being a brown-noser gets you into dental school, so what? you got in.

Cool. Obviously, you will get a chance to tell them. The other schools might not find out though unless you find another way to let them know. I think different schools have different policies regarding paperwork sent to the school outside of the AADSAS. I think some don't mind, and some want nothing to do with it. (Tufts maybe?) You might want to do a little research in this area and find out which schools wouldn't mind hearing from you.
Good luck!!

Thanks. Appreciative of the info
Will your research turn dentistry on it's head?
Just tell them in the secondaries if there are secondaries.

Oh man, I wish I can say I am doing research in a lab that is studying a way to genetically make the need for dental implants obsolete, but no. I am in a lab helping in a grad student prove that retinoids acid is a key component in developmental differentiation of cells.
Do you think I should get out of my way to make them notice this tiny bit of myself during interviews? My first one is this tuesday at NYU
Today I asked my pre-health advisor if I should send new transcripts out to reflect my research grade in the summer, which I received after I e-submitted. She said that she doubts a research grade will make or break me, but that I could send an "update letter" to inform committees of any new or continuing activities. So..yeah I still think you should send one 🙂
At the interview, they might be as interested in your research as in your local weather.Do you think I should get out of my way to make them notice this tiny bit of myself during interviews? My first one is this tuesday at NYU

You might be able to slip this in during your interviews. I don't think you should update schools with this info unless you put in a significant amount of hours.
The less work you make admissions people do, the less you irritate them. So ask yourself if it's worth having the admissions people update your dossier over.
