Regarding vaccinations, how the F*** is Jenny McCarthy a voice in this issue?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
She -was- a voice.

Also, because your average person is an idiot, they tend to believe anything a celebrity says.
Haha I am trying my best to understand...she's definitely qualified to make an argument lmao. Please, someone on SDN (I know you're out there), tell me she knows what she's talking about.

Anyone can make an argument. But is she qualified? F*** no, she's not.

That's the problem: she doesn't know what she's talking about, and people eat it up like it's the truth.

While she's not as big of a voice as she once was, she unfortunately still is given time to speak, mostly just for TV ratings and clicks on online stories.

I encounter vaccine hesitancy issues a lot in my current job in public health, and a lot of the current knowledge points toward vaccine hesitant parents not feeling confident talking to medical/health professionals (for a plethora of reasons). They see her as [somehow] more relatable--a fellow mother who is open to listening to concerns about vaccines (nevermind the fact that many physicians are also parents). Obviously this is the wrong voice for these parents to end up listening to, and thankfully very few actually do, but I think that's where a lot of it stems from.

She's also very charismatic, and is generally better at garnering attention than your average science-minded person. Profanity and absolutes get more hits than calmly delivered science that often comes with caveats.

People don't want to take responsibility and it's easier to blame someone else. It's a difficult thing to accept that your child has a lifelong disorder that does not have a good prognosis. Oh my child has cerebral palsy? My doula told me that the birth would go smoothly and the midwife was amazing. It must be the stupid ob-gyn's fault, let me get my lawyer on the phone and sue for millions
