#1) Does the Reissner membrane transfer sound waves to the scala media? Is that all it does?

#2) not a question but interesting (I think):
There is a fifth taste and it's called "umami taste"
Umami is the taste of certain amino acids (e.g. glutamate, aspartate and related compounds). It was first identified by Kikunae Ikeda at the Imperial University of Tokyo in 1909.

The membrane just separates the fluid in the scala vestibule and the scala media and maintains endochochlear potential to help with sound transduction.

and the taste thing is pretty cool. My prof talked about it in his behavioral neuro class. He said that the taste was similar to cheese or something.

Are we in the same thread here, this is DAT, not BST (brain surgeon test). What is a endochochlear potential, sounds like it has to do with the ear or one of the senses - I havn't even studied that yet - do we have to know it?

Should I be nervous right about now? :scared:

Because you are making me nervous :scared:

Responses appreciated 😳

this is the truth - people DON'T make me laugh!

but as soon as I read this post, it put a slight smile on my face

that's funny

btw, i'm on 'fukitol' (if you havn't seen a previous thread on SDN, then you won't get it, but i'm sure you have)

That question #1 was makin me nervous because that is def something I did not learn in undergrad and thought maybe that question was on the DAT :scared:

I read that last night around 2:30 in the morning and it was so over the top I couldn't even get worried over it. Neither of the words are even in my intro. bio textbook...I'm happy to see I did figure correctly that it was related to the ear.

...as for Umami, isn't that a cool name for a taste (I think in addition to cheese, it is also the taste associated with steak)...but it makes me think of sushi, yummmmmm. 😀
