Hi all,

I hate to stir up bad memories, but I am curious if anyone has been rejected (pre-interview) from the University of Michigan? I am an in-state applicant, completed secondary in Aug, sent LORs and photo in November, and still no word. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, and so I am wondering if they have dispensed any pre-interview rejections or if they are saving them for later (for people such as myself:laugh: )? Any answers would be great! Thanks all!

I'm guessing from the 52 people who have viewed this thread and not responded that there is no one who has been rejected pre-interview... I tried looking in the sticky rejection thread for more info, but no luck..🙁 Hmm, guess we'll all just have to keep on waiting... (sigh)

hey dri...

how you been?

i didnt get rejected yet but essentially i am. they didnt even ask for my LORs haha.

did you call them up? at this point in the game it might be better to take a more active stance. show some interest. good luck tho...

Hey Jlee!!

I've been great - working for a university comes in pretty handy went academic breaks roll around, so my holidays were super.. how bout yours?

Hey, don't worry about the U of M LORs... it hasn't seemed to help the processing of my app since I sent them in 😉

How is the rest of your app cycle going? Any other acceptances?? PM me! we'll chat! great to hear from you and continued good luck!

i received my rejection letter last week from them.
complete in august, LOR's sent, etc. etc.
it'll say on the website, then you'll get a letter.

hope it's not the case for you. good luck!

do you automatically have to send in a pic? i thought they'll request one only if you're invited for an interview. otherwise i've been complete since late october with no word.

Jonathanamine... are you an in-state applicant? I'm sorry to hear about your luck - best wishes with your other applications though - I'm sure U of M will be kicking themselves with regret (and I don't doubt that my rejection letter's on it's way as well - probably got lost in the holiday mail)!

Potuhusky... that's what I thought too... that you only have to send a photo if they've invited you to interview. But, when they asked for my LORs, they asked for a photo too. I was perplexed, but I've learned that I never know what to expect from this crazy application cycle!!

Thanks for replying to this thread guys (and/ or gals)!!

hey lucky me... i decided to check my online status with UM and there was my rejection. time to get drunk! naaa... i didn't have my hopes high any way.

dri-
I am in almost the exact situation that you described. I just checked the status page, and have not been rejected... yet. Although, it has not changed since august. Regardless, you are not the only one out there who hasnt heard a thing from UofM. Ohh yeah, Im in-state also.

I have pretty much given up on going there. The real blow is when I go to interviews on the east coast and nearly everyone in the room has had an interview at UofM, and I am the only in-state person. In fact, I don't personally know anyone in-state who has gotten in there so far.

The best of luck to all of you.

ddmoore,

thanks for making me feel like I'm not alone😉 I too have thrown my arms up in one giant exasperated "wth!!"

I've gotta ask though - where's the love for us Michigan tax payers... ? I too do not know anyone who has been accepted there yet from in-state. It's probably b/c my circle of friends who double as med school applicants is quite small, but still.... ya gotta wonder!!

But, hey, there's nothing wrong with the East Coast!

I think Chi-town is calling my name personally 😍

Best of luck to you though, and continued success out east or wherever your heart desires!

Hey everyone, just wanted to add my name to this list of people waiting to hear from Michigan. Was complete mid-august as well, with no word after the request for lors. Looking at a link from last years cycle, it appears some people did get interviews into jan/feb, so keep the fingers crossed everyone. I think thats a little discourteous that they post your rejection online before you get the letter, but maybe we're better off hearing sooner. anyways, good luck all.

Boy...Michigan was my top choice, (I'm drinking coffee from a "go blue" mug in fact...) but I'm slowly resigning myself to rejection 🙁 . I used to check the status page a few thousand times a day, but it hasn't changed in two plus months. I'm like the lab rat who checks the food dispenser, finds nothing, paces around, checks the food dispenser again, paces around, checks it again...nothing. eventually, the rat uses the last of it's strength to feebly crawl to the corner of the cage and collapse...
well, I'm being a bit melodramatic because I got into a great school, but still...

Or it might be because UMich is getting stiffed by the legislature and is seeking to increase their budget by accepting students who will have to pay higher tuition. Their 50% out-of-state acceptance rate is the highest I've ever seen. I know a lot of state schools are not getting the support they need from the legislature, actually every state school I have visited. Ohio State jokingly told us that they now consider themselves an "Ohio located school".

I just called and asked about my status. don't know if this has been said before but they are doing a final review of applications and we should all hear by mid-February. Also, they said they are granting interviews until mid-March....so, guess it's just wait and see.

Omisoc,

Thanks for taking the initiative to call U of M and for thoughtfully sharing their response🙂 I was too chicken - figuring they'd tell me to just continue being patient. I feel better knowing that there is an end in sight to the waiting... What a relief!

Yeah, I've been putting off calling them for a while. They also said that if there's a change in your file, you'll see it reflected immediately on your status page.

I had to laugh because my emotions while checking the status page have completely changed. I used to check it with a feeling of hope and anticipation that I might have gotten an interview invite. Now I feel like I am playing Russian Roulette whenever I click that current status button. Woohoo, love the rush... I just hope it doesn't go bang! 😛

Does anyone know if there has been any movement on the waitlist yet?....Anxiously waiting.....

Does UMich still have that deal where you can call at the end of March to find out your waitlist tier? It seems like there would be alot of movement off of that information.

the website says you can call in april and ask your waitlist position. also, i'm wondering if anyone on the waitlist has seen their status page update since the decisions? i interviewed before 10/15, and that looks like the last time anyone checked me out. has anyone gotten accepted from the waitlist yet? what about rejected? i'd just like to know what's going on.

I was rejected pre-interview as noted on the website... dated 1/14/04.....
