Rejected but offered to enroll in career development tool ?!

I recently interviewed for a PIC position. Thought the interview went pretty well. The team spent 1.5 hrs .. showing me the facility and introducing me to the staff.
A week later I got a rejection email from recruiter.
And today morning they sent me a rejection letter with a courtesy “gesture “— to enroll in the company’s career development tool.. essentially a website to enroll to prep in your job search .. interviewing techniques etc..

Never heard anything like this .. anyone had an experience like this ?

Makes me wonder - was I good or super bad at the interview .. can’t seem to understand the “gesture”..

You may have had a perfect interview but they probably had an internal candidate lined up already and are “interviewing” external candidates for fodder/to meet HR rules. At my organization, when we post a role HR requires us to interview at least 3 candidates so even if it were a role meant for an internal candidate they’d still need to find 2 other people to interview before making it official.

You may have had a perfect interview but they probably had an internal candidate lined up already and are “interviewing” external candidates for fodder/to meet HR rules. At my organization, when we post a role HR requires us to interview at least 3 candidates so even if it were a role meant for an internal candidate they’d still need to find 2 other people to interview before making it official.

Your right , that does happen. But I wouldn’t spend an hr and half with a candidate who they were just interviewing for “formality”.

Was just curious if anyone ever got a “courtesy gesture “ to join a professional developmental platform after rejection.

I know many don’t even bother to let the candidate know that the position they interviewed for is closed or filled! That’s after having had a good follow up.

I have never heard of a non-picked applicant being invited to join a professional development platform. I would think that means they like you somewhat, because if they didn't, they wouldn't have bothered contacting you again. If you hope to interview an Omnicare again, I would recommend going the prof dev platform. It will probably give you some insight into what they are looking for.

I interview pharmacists so maybe I can provide some insights on the 1.5 hours:

- they like you but there was someone better. In this case, I would send a follow up thank you email or card and emphasize that you are still interested in another position if it is available. Follow up here and there.

- they do this to other candidates. They don’t want to seem like they are discriminating against you by not giving you the same courtesy

Came from their careers email .. not from the recruiter who approached initially for on site interview. So I’m guessing not personal.

May be this is something new they are coming up with.
