So I'm a bit concerned after getting my first rejection letter.

I have a 22 AA, 23 TS with 26 OC, 23 BIO, 21GC, 23 RC, 19 QR and 20 PAT

My gpa is lowish: 3.55o and 3.41 science.

200 volunteer hours but only 62 hours of shadowing (decided to do dentistry this year instead of research)

400 hours working in a breast cancer research lab

with august coming up i'm getting a little stressed and wondering what schools I would definitely get accepted to. Especially since there were people with sub 3.5 gpas/20 dat getting interviews. I really don't want to wait another year since i'm already taking a gap year.

Seeing as you switched from pre-med, I hope you touched on that well somehow in your application! No need to fret this early in the cycle

where else did you apply? You should definitely get more than a few interviews.
Probably a bit overkill but..

UNLV, Nova, Tufts, Temple, Penn, case, lecom, ucsf, col, ind, nyu, susb, osu, pitt

Wouldn't worry about it. You have other schools on your list.

I think the weakest part of your application might actually be your hours of shadowing. I've heard that Midwestern likes several hundred hours of shadowing (I tried to find the SDN post where I read that). I think this is especially important if you were originally pre-med. They want to know that you are truly committed to dentistry.

EDIT: here is a post about number of hours shadowing UPDATED: How many Dental School Shadowing / Volunteer Hours should you aim for?

Nothing to worry about yet - chances are Midwestern is looking for something specific you didn't have, rather than an issue with your application. Have you had any interview invites yet?

Sadly no, but of course it is a bit early. I was really wondering if I should apply to a few more schools while it's still early-ish.

relax, max. you've got awesome stats. No one gets an interview invite to every school they apply to, even if they're a superstar. You just weren't what they were looking for, and that's why you play it safe and apply to a handful of schools. With your stats, you shouldn't have any trouble getting into one of your top choices.

You can still apply to more schools even after you submit your application?

Are you going to ask for feedback from the school about your application? I know there's thread where they give feedback if you get in contact with them.

You can add 2 more schools to be on the safe side.
Your gpa is on the low side, but your other stuff are amazing.

I could, but then I would just get more anxiety.

Hopefully not too many people got high DAT scores this year.🤣

I think you should cast a wider net for schools if you're worried. It may be a bit expensive but remember this is an investment. You want have options in the end. I'd apply for and start on the secondary apps ASAP.

I agree with the comment above. Try to apply to as many schools as you can. I am starting dental school this year and I got accepted with lower stats than yours. I think there are different qualities that each school looks for and you never know which school will find you as a desirable candidate. Also, as you've said, it is still very early. I just got through with first year orientations and I met some people who received their acceptance last week! Don't be discouraged and stay hopeful!

If I had to choose just a few from the list above, I think I'd apply to Western and UoP, just because I've been hearing from many of my classmates that they've received interview invites from those schools.

Getting into a school sometimes feels like throwing a dart with your eyes closed. I had some interviews I didn't expect to get, and I also had some rejections I didn't see coming. The application cycle is VERY early, so don't stress about it.
