I don't mean this as a bragging post, but rather I want to see what other's take on this situation might be. I applied to 10 schools and was blessed to receive interviews at them all. That being said, I found out today that I was rejected (after interviewing) at BOTH of my state schools, Pitt and Temple.

They're great schools, and I have nothing negative to say about them, but luckily I was not considering them to be my top choices. Feel free to look at my predents.com stats for more info on my numbers and schools.

Do you think there is a reason that my state schools didn't want me??? I am frustrating myself by trying to logic out their dislike of me as an applicant. Thanks for any insights/opinions, and good luck to anyone still interviewing, waiting, or waitlisted!

I got rejected from one state school and waitlisted at the other. The first school didn't process my application fee properly and then lost my application, but eventually found(?) it...in November. I was in touch with someone from admissions at the other school who told me I had a very good chance of being accepted. I was worried about my GPA (over 3.0 but not 3.5+) but they said it was not a problem because I came from a competitive school. Fast forward six months later, I'm on the waitlist. I ask what I could do boost my chances of getting off the list and why I did not get accepted on Dec 1st.... She said it was because of my low GPA. Terrific. End rant.

State schools are really competitive. After all, it's cheaper tuition and less loans. It's why people will choose in state schools over names like Penn, Columbia, Harvard, etc.
If you are curious, maybe you can contact them and ask why you did not get accepted. Maybe they'll give you a better answer than "Well, it's just competitive and we had lots of great candidates including you...."

They probably got the feeling that you were not "considering them to be" your "top choices" so they saved you the trouble.
