I guess this isn't really a new topic for a post but it hasn't been discussed for a while. This is my first year applying to pharmacy school and I want to know how many people usually get in their first year or if they apply multiple times. For those of you reapplying, what did you do to make your application better?

Took a year of prereqs at a CC, got straight As. Got a Pharm Tech license which I did not use at all. Volunteered another 100 hours at a pharmacy in a low income area.

Went from 1 interview and 6 rejections to 6-7 interviews and 3 acceptances.

Reapplying pays off. it shows you really want to do this.

Found a job working in a pharmacy. 2 interviews, 2 rejections. 4 interviews, 3 acceptances.

oh yeah and i esubmitted in june this year rather than august last year. i really think that 2 months helped.

apply early!

Applied in 2008: 4 applications, 4 waitlists which became 4 rejections.

2009: 3 applications, 3 acceptances. 🙂

It really does help to reapply--as long as you can show that you've improved your application from the previous year (better grades, more experience/volunteering/leadership). It's not going to do any good if you reapply and haven't shown any significant improvement.

Hmmm, was everyone's PCAT score competitive the first year around?

i didnt take the pcat my first round... only applied to CA schools.

second time around got a 94 comp, got into some out-of-states, but also got into 1 CA so far.

2008: applied to 4 schools, 1 interview, 1 waitlist
2009: applied to 4 schools, 3 interviews, 1 accept, 1 waitlist

no pcat, no pharm experience. what hurt me my first time applying was having ~30 units in progress (pre-reqs)

2007: Applied to 1 school:
1 rejection

Change: decided to apply to more than 1 school & take PCAT

2008: Applied to 2 schools:
1 interview -> 1 waitlisted -> rejected
1 rejection

Change: applied to more schools EARLY, volunteered at 3 different places, retook PCAT, took a pharm tech course

2009: Applied to 6 schools:
4 interviews -> 3 waitlisted, 1 acceptance
1 interview declined

My 2 cents: Don't give up. Keep improving yourself as an applicant.

I took more prerequisites so I could apply to more schools and show my original choice of school that I was still motivated, then retook the PCAT and did much better. Last year I could only apply to 1 school and couldn't get an interview. This year I applied to 4, was invited to interviews by all 4. I have been accepted by 2, waiting for a decision on a 3rd, and ended up declining the interview for the 4th. Trying again definitely paid off since I'll be going to pharmacy school next year!!!

Which schools did you apply to? In the interview do they ask you about reapplying?

I'm reapplying too. For those of you who have already reapplied, do you think its okay if I reuse parts of my personal statement from last year? I want to change the body of my personal statement because working in a Pharmacy for the past year has reinforced my decision and taught me a lot, so I really want to talk about that. However, I thought I had a really good opening paragraph last year about what got me interested in the 1st place, and I am wondering if its going to look bad if I reuse the opening paragraph. As it is, I'm only reapplying to one school - the other 6 are new, so they've never read it before. Advice? Thanks guys!
