Okay, so if you think this thread will depress or demotivate you, please stop reading and click "back" now. As a tool for the rest of us, however, I was hoping to start a discussion thread on people who interviewed this year who were subsequently rejected. Answer as you feel appropriate:

-Which school?
-When did you interview?
-When did you find out you had been rejected?
-How specifically did the interview go, what kind of questions and interviewers?
-Why do you think you got rejected?
-Do you feel you did poorly afterwards - did you see the rejection coming?
-Have you got any other interviews, or even better, acceptances (hope so!)?

I think this might provide a useful tool for us SDNers. Good luck to all those this application cycle, and always, always maintain a positive mental attitude!

i like the idea
i think it would help a lot of us out
unfortunately i have not interviewed any where yet, so i can't contribute YET

im expecting a BIG rejection from LECOM Bradeton sometime this week. My interview went outright awful. So u can more or less chalk me up for that.

what was so bad about it if you don't mind me asking?

well i didnt know that it was a closed file interview, so i assumed that they read my application, and therefore failed to elaborate on my major accomplishments. They asked me several hypothetical questions that i simply froze on, and i think for a full 60 seconds i just stood there with my mouth wide open. I got one question that asked, "who would u vote for president and why?" I said Romney which apparentley was a bad answer. The interviewers in general were fine, it wasnt their fault at all, I think it was entirley me. It was my third interview, and i didnt prepare much for it since I thought i had the basics under control. I liked bradenton, and im dissapointed it didnt work out, but whatever i guess u live and learn.

Are schools allowed to ask about your political views? If someone asked me that I would say I have no clue which I'm sure would not be a great answer.

Just say you are a moderate. Say it depends on the issues...

That's actually pretty true. I do lean more one way but to be honest I don't keep up with politics all that much.

i said romney cuz im from massachusets, and i remember hearing that hes all for mandatory health care. But then one thing led to another, and one of my interviewers dug a hole for me and dumped me in it with all the reasons why romney would not be a good choice. Of course the next question was: If you had a patient who needed a lung transplant to survive, but there are 30 kids that arnt your patient who need the lung for some sort of vaccine, what do you do? do you give the lung to your patient, or do u tell your patient no, and give the lung to the kids?

theres no right or wrong answer apparentley but i said the kids, and the same guy more or less yelled at me sayin that i have an obligation to my patient and not to the 30 kids who arent my patient, and therefore to neglect my patient would be irresponsable. I really had no defense after that. But hey, its over, enough about bradenton. I still liked the school though.

Maybe someone else has an opinion on this but I think that's really unfair and at least bordering on inappropriate.

Himm, that is a really tough question...

-Which school? VCOM

-When did you interview? 11/9/2007

-When did you find out you had been rejected? They promised to call in two days. I didn't hear anything until I got my rejection letter four days after the interview.

-How specifically did the interview go, what kind of questions and interviewers? I thought the interview went great. There were three one-on-one interviews, open file. I had great conversations with the interviewers. One even talked about how impressive my file was and how wonderful my LORs were. He also told me I should consider some of their dual degree programs.

They asked me the basic interview questions, why DO, why VCOM. The hardest questions were the following:

1. If you had to amputate a person's limb, what would you do? I was not sure where they wanted me to go with the answer. I asked for some clarification and then said that I would be concerned with helping the patient achieve the highest possible quality of life post amputation.

2. Who would you chose for Time Magazine's person of the year?

-Why do you think you got rejected? I honestly have no idea. I left the interview really excited and I even started looking for a place to live in Blacksburg. I am really disappointed.

-Do you feel you did poorly afterwards - did you see the rejection coming? I feel totally blindsided.

-Have you got any other interviews, or even better, acceptances (hope so!)? Had an interview at WVSOM but still waiting to hear from them.

Rest assured that that question was never asked at Bradenton. They have a list of questions to go from and everyone is asked the same thing. If someone tells you they were asked that, then you should re-evaluate the source.

i was asked that question at bradenton. Believe it or not, I dont care. Im just saying thats what happened to me. nevertheless, I stil enjoyed my time at bradenton, and i thought the interviewers were mostly sincere. the only thing i didnt like was the interrogation at the end of the day when they asked us our opinions on PBL for about an hour.

if you want scpod i can tell u who interviewed me in a private message, since i dont feel like declaring it to the whole network.

Good point scpod. I guess I'm just nervous about what questions I might be asked at my upcoming interview so I kind of jumped on it. Maybe I need to learn not to be quite so trusting.

Well....you know the thing to remember on SDN sometimes is that there are people here with the sole purpose of making everyone's lives miderable. Just ignore them and things will be better. Trust is good, though, but must be earned. Good luck, btw, on your interview season!

Hey can I use that as one of my weaknesses if I'm asked? You're right though. I'm honest with everyone on here and I don't make things up so I just assume other people don't. I appreciate the :luck:!! 😀

At EVMS, I was hit with a "George Bush is the scum of the earth" rant, and expected to respond.

I'm not exactly the president of the George Bush fan club. I was mostly mad because I think I was stereotyped as being in love with George Bush because I'm from TX. They were just trying to push my buttons, but the rant was way off the deep end of nonsense, and I could tell the guy didn't even believe what he was saying, and it was obvious what he was doing. My response was "seriously?"

Wow, this is REALLY scary!! I've never heard of someone feeling that they did awesome in an interview and get out right rejected!! You have no idea what might have lead to this???? Do they have strong instate ties or something??

I'm wondering if they may change the questions a little bc I was asked at one point during the interview, "What would your kids would say was the worst thing about you." I hope that question is not asked to everyone. Actually my interview there went really well except the fact that I said the article that we had to read was convoluted and it contradicted itself all the way through. They seemed to be OK with my answer so I kind of think that was what they were expecting but it felt really weird saying that. Hey, it was my honest opinion and I am so not good at lying.

my article was on HDL's. It helped that i had a test in Cell bio the week before on chylomicrons and such. After i started mentioning the key points of the article and how people that smoke with high HDL could be less prone to coronary conditions than someone who is skinny with low HDL that was when the interviewers fired the lung question at me.

They can subtly "bend" questions, and probably did alter one in this case for you. Normally, they would ask what your peers or classmates would say was the worst thing about you. But the other one is too far from the list.

They don't seem to have strong in-state ties. I know of two people from my interview group who were accepted, both from out of state.

-Which school? KCOM
-When did you interview? October 18
-When did you find out you had been rejected? November 3rd. They told me to call a week after the interview. then I called and they told me a decision had not been made and to call back the next week. I called back the next week and ended up leaving a message. They ended up emailing me a "thanks but no thanks".
-How specifically did the interview go, what kind of questions and interviewers? I really thought the interview went SO well. The only specific question I can recall is "if you could be an activist for a cause, what would it be?" and I said healthy lifestyles and obesity.
-Why do you think you got rejected? Absolutely no idea.
-Do you feel you did poorly afterwards - did you see the rejection coming? Nope, I felt great. Like the previous post, we even started looking for places to live. I felt awful, and so did my wife.
-Have you got any other interviews, or even better, acceptances (hope so!)? yes, accepted at WVSOM and waiting to hear back from DMU( i interviewed 11/8/07).
