I got my first "real" rejection today (not counting Stanford, because I applied there before I knew my MCAT scores, and I knew I didn't have a chance) and it is the one that hurts the most. I was rejected from OHSU, my state school, and a school from which I received a BS in Medical Technology. This is the school I had my heart set on, and if I couldn't even get an interview there, does that mean that all the other schools I haven't heard from will probably be rejections too? I' so depressed, I can't stand it! :( :(

stats: 29MCAT, 3.6 overall, 3.4 science, from state university.

Oregon..the battle's not over yet!!!! I have not been interviewed or contacted by my state schools yet, yet I have two interviews with schools that are even better..so don't worry, due to all the amcas problems, schools are backed up

I am echoing swampman here. I think your chances of winning an appeal are much greater since they didn't grant you an interview. They may have overlooked something wonderful in your application that you can bring to their attention.

Cheer up Oregon,

I haven't heard jack squat from my state schools but I have had two interviews from out of state schools. There is still hope.

Your stats seem like they should have been enough to get you an interview....in my humble opinion.

I aggree with Swampman, might as well go ahead and appeal. In the meantime check up on your apps at other schools, I would think you would have gotten interviews places, if you applied carefully. Well good luck.

Hi labrat,
I'm really sorry to hear this. Let me ask you a couple of questions. Have you interviewed anywhere else? Are you an OR resident?

If you're an Oregon resident and you didn't get an invite with your stats, I can only think that they made a mistake or one of your recs was a very negative one. Can you hand-deliver your appeal letter?

I feel you, Oregon. I have been waitlisted by my state school where I've been most active. While not a rejection, it really hurt. Don't give up! Since you've been most associated with that school, perhaps there is someone you know who can help you with an appeal? Tell him/her about your current situation, after all, what have you got to lose?

I have deceided this whole process is a crap shoot. They pick and chose through us all and in the end at times there doesn't seem to be any rhymn or reason to how they pick someone over someone else. Yeah, I know they look at stats and EC and etc... But in the end I really don't see how they pick.

I am really sorry Oregon rejected you. All you needed was a 24 in MCAT to be considered, so what else did you need? Especially if you had recommendation letters from their own faculty at the undergraduate level. I am really sorry for you. I know how you feel, one of my state schools rejected before an interview and they know me. Oh well.

CHIN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give yourself a pat on the back and don't let them bring your spirits down. I applaud you.

Thank you all so much for your encouraging replies. It really means a lot to me! You guys are so great, its nice to be a part of such an encouraging network of people. I am definitely going to appeal, because there's nothing left to lose. I've already drafted the letter. The funny thing is, I drafted a letter two days ago stating my interest in OHSU and how it was my first choice. The only reason I didn't mail it yesterday was because I didn't have a stamp. I'm really glad I didn't, since I got the rejection today. Thanks guys. I know many of you have gone thru this, and it definitely sucks! Thanks for allowing me to mourn my first rejection publicly (yet still anonymously :) ).

I kind of know how you feel Oregon. I was put on hold at my state school, the one where I thought I had the biggest chance (and where I've worked for 3 years). It really hit me hard. Though I don't have an acceptance, I've interviewed at a good number of places and my MCAT is pretty similar to yours so I'm very optimistic for you getting interviews.

I'm glad you're appealing. Good luck with it! I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Today, of all days, I feel your pain. I failed to match at UT Southwestern today. I really wanted to go there because I'm from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and wanted to be closer to my family.

Best of luck in your appeal. I'm rooting for you!
