Now im getting curious w/ all these arguments "ivy leagues suck" vs "ivy leagues rule." I was just wondering how many people who have gotten into penn and/or columbia (im excluding harvard bc well, it's harvard) decide not to go to either and attend a non-ivy school.

There is no Ivy League anymore. Once you realize that, it gets a lot easier to turn them down.

haha...follow this advice. The picture becomes VERY clear.

Although I was looking at an ad in the paper "Harvard trained dentist" was the main headline. So I guess that might be worth something

that's pretty sad that a harvard grad would stoop so low. just proves that an ivy leauge education isn't any better than what you get at your state uni.

jb!🙂

True dat. Just go with your gut feeling... if you feel good vibes at a place, go with it.

How would that prove that or anything? Sounds better that Nova, UF, Temple, and EVERY other school.

PS. An "ivy league education" is typically the undergraduate education, because it's the education that broadens all out thinking and prepares us for the world at large. The professional school education is more narrowly tailored.

i turned down penn last year. i didn't feel right there....you need to judge what makes you feel happy and where you will thrive. you need ot be somewhere that you will be happy...that's more important then whether or not you rejected an ivy.

I turned down columbia, harvard, penn and meharry.......wait no I didnt. I didnt even apply to those schools.

I disagree with going with the gut instinct. My own opinion is that you should weigh all the factors, make the best logical choice and stick with it.

My own logical choice ended with me turning down Columbia for University of the Pacific. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those "iVY laGuez suck rawr!!!1" people. It's a great school, I just believe their teaching philosophy and mission didn't fall in line with my own. Also, it was slightly more financially responsible of me to go to Pacific, and I felt like I needed the extra motivation of a grading system to motivate me to do well.

I must say though, I watched Ghostbusters yesterday and felt a little sigh of disappointment that I wouldn't get to hand around beautiful NYC and the fantastic Columbia undergrad campus. 🙁

and get terrorized by a giant marshmallow, or worse yet.... slimed? No thanks.

ps. Do not cross the streams.

Tack on 20,000 a year for the word 'ivy' and the same education you would get anywhere else.

Go to the school that you think will fit your goals/you feel the most comfortable with. Don't use the 'ivy' status as the only factor, it won't help.

Gozer the Traveler will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii the Traveler came as a very large and moving Torb. Then of course in the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him, that of a Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in he depths of the Sloar that day, I can tell you.

Armor, you are a different kind of dude. It's going to be an interesting couple of years at Pacific (in a good way). 🙂

I'm in a similar boat. While it was a hard decision at first I ultimately didn't feel that Columbia or UPenn would be the best schools for me, so I turned down both for UConn or Harvard. I am planning on UConn and am on the waitlist at Harvard. If I get into Harvard, I will have some serious thinking to do, nevertheless I could really picture myself at either school.

Gozer the Gozerian... good evening. As a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension.
