So, I got my first official snail-mail rejection today, and am kinda bummed out... but I'm guessing more will be coming in the future. My question is, when (and whom specifically) does one start asking about ways to improve for the future? On one hand, I can understand the adcoms are still up to their eyeballs in applications at the moment, and it might be best to wait until I am sure whether I actually will be applying during the next round or not. On the other hand, if there are weaknesses in my application that I wasn't aware of, it would be nice to know so that I can address them in the interviews that I do have coming up.

Sorry to hear that. You can always contact them as inquire as to why. Just beware there are alot of reasons schools look at one candidate favorably vs others without alot of consistency to it. Since you have interviews coming up just focus more on them to do your best.

Regardless of how many offers one accures.... you can select and attend only ONE. Further, you only need be accepted to ONE school. So try to relax

Good Luck

yeah? where did you get the ugly rejection from? Don't feel bad, you're not the first, I got the "small envelope" from Wash U.

As an aside, I have no clue what Duke's MSTP program is looking for. They have been rejecting some amazing applicants (myself not included). Whatever... I wouldn't feel badly about that one, hater. You've got some other kicka$$ interviews to make up for it. :luck:

Lol, I know what you mean. Keep your chin up, I'm sure things will turn out fine come March and flood of acceptances😀

My rejection was from Cornell.

hateroftheyear, you're not alone.

people are getting rejected at duke? what???

I got an email from the Duke students and from one of the admissions directors essentially pleading applicants to complete the secondary. They almost had me. But if really good applicants (like hater) are getting rejected from there, forget that!

No worries man. You still have a ridiculously nice list of schools you're waiting to hear from.

As a side note, I've been waiting for a rejections thread:

Cornell
UCSF
Stanford
U of Wash

hater, you'll be fine. keep your head up.

Thanks. I guess it's just my control freak nature, desperately wishing there was more under my control. Will just have to pratice some patience and see where things are come March/April, I know. But it's really good to know I'm not alone in feeling bummed out.

yeah there's not a rejection thread in our md/phd forum, but trust me, i know quite a few of us have racked up the thin envelopes. it's a bit too depressing to list them.

Yeah, let's start a rejection thread to get rid of some of those depressing vibes. It won't get deleted or closed if its started, right?

Anger fading????? Have a beer and watch some TV.

You only gotta get ONE acceptance- and if you interviewed at Cornell you're a strong applicant and will get in somewhere.
