could you tell me what your missouri letter says? i have a letter from missouri asking for application money. it also states what qualification a person must have before an interview is granted. don't know if its the same as yours

it basically said that if you are not a missouri resident then you must have SUPERIOR stats to even get it looked at. It was the same nonsense that all those state schools send out

Just curious how many of you submitted app. fees, or went through the whole secondary process before receiving those horrid rejection letters?
How's this for a rejection story....drove 4.5 hours last weekend to SIU dental to take a tour and have an informal interview....only to arrive, be led into an office, and told flat out that I wasnt going to get in this app cycle....definetly made for a fun drive home 😡

most of us that are getting interviews already applied in may or early june. it would be in your best interest to send in your application as soon as you can!! like someone else said, don't wait for the letters before you send it, they can be sent in later.

Wow, just got a rejection from Case. The crappy thing is that they sent me a happy information package along with a nice little "Please send your Application fee ASAP" letter. Seven days later, Whamm! We regret to inform you... 😡

Is it possible for those who have been rejected to give a list of those schools rejected from and a list of your stats, ie...gpa, dat, number of times taken the dat, degree or no degree, shadow/assisting exp, number of times applying, res/non-res, etc.

This would be very beneficial to many of us still waiting to get responses from schools so we can stay realistic.

Thanks.

in all fairness though, everyone does have to pay an application fee to all their schools, regardless of if they are ultimately accepted or not. just because someone didnt end up being accepted shouldn't and doesn't exclude them from having to pay the initial application fee. i do agree though that it is rude when schools make you pay a secondary fee of some sorts and then reject you the next day!! has anyone been rejected from case or other schools post-interview?

what were your stats??

I am starting to get scared here, I haven't heard from them in a while???

I thought my stats were relatively competitive:

NC resident

Undergrad GPA: 2.75 (BS Chemical Engineering)
Science GPA: 3.0
Graduate GPA: 3.6 (MS Chemical Engineering)

DAT: 19AA 17PAT 19QR 24RC 17BIO 20CH 17OC 18TS

100+ hours shadowing Periodontist and General Practice

Dunno if being a non-traditional student (32 years old) helps or hurts. I've been
out of school for a while, but I guess that's offset by 8 years of work experience.

Applied to: UNC, MUSC, VCU, Tufts, Case, Colorado, OSU

Thoughts?

PB

hey packbacker--

your stats seem competetive, you should get at least a couple of interviews in my opinion. have you heard anything from MUSC? that's one of the schools I applied to also...what do you know about it? thanks!

I friend of mine interviewed there last spring. Prior to him leaving he contacted them to see if they were seriously considering him. They told him they wouldn't invite him out if they weren't. With that he went off to the interview, only to return home to find a letter post-dated the day before his interview kindly informing him that his application was denied. Needless to say he wasn't too pleased.

hey phosphorylation, i applied to some of the schools you did...im below a 3.0 as well. i was just wondering if you mind sharing with me the rest of your stats...i havent heard anything yet from them schools, but would like to know where i stand as well... thanks.

Answer: Both of those methods will and are used by dental schools

Yup. He was really upset (to say the least) and I think what happened was one hand didn't communicate fully with the other and presto!

consider yourselves lucky... i got a freakin secondary from Loma Linda and I didn't even want to apply there (but did it cause my EX told me to apply...we were both applying and he wanted to stay in Ca) and I ended up paying the extra X amount of money and answering questions like how are you religious, how are you spirital (which i'm not) etc...what a waste could have saved some money...

but if you're already getting rejection letters...i'll be worried... i didn't take my DATs til end of Nov and had two interviews lined up by aug... you guys might wanna do something to make yourself a better applicant.

good luck

Why would you apply to Colorado? You are competing for 3 spots with the WHOLE nation? Don't send any secondary money if you haven't already!

teethpuller, i actually hit the 3.011 mark this week. im an OH resident. when i applied i was like 2.7something. I have NOT taken the DAT yet, hopefully on sept. 20 tho. science gpa around 2.50, and non science around 3.35. Its been a stressful cycle, PM me if you need anything else...best of luck...

I received my rejection (U of Md) prior to any interview. They got my original application $ (natch. my ck was cashed) but at least I wasted no time or money traveling there. It really sucks if they ask for money and a secondary and then reject you right after that, cause you gotta think they knew before they asked that you had no hope.

Well continuing the excellent week, I just heard from Colorado. Typical response and thankfully they didn't ask for an app fee first! I'm hoping that next week is a LITTLE better than this one... 😀

I had a good day, i recieved my first interview invitation, and it was from my top choice. So I am really excited and nervous.

keep the faith, things will happen eventually.

To all! Thank you for sharing.

It truly amazes me how many dental schools "reject" upon receipt! Isn't there always a possibility of a computer processing glitch (misreporting information) and shouldn't a complete file be considered? What happened to the December 1 notification date?

Obviously, the schools you've mentioned practicing such exercises are not the schools for me, as I choose to be considered as a whole person who continues to take "baby steps" on a daily basis toward becoming the professional I aspire to be (none of us are perfect, never have been and never will be!). I am not simply numbers on an application and my patients will not simply be $$$$ in my pocket. As I continue to strive for excellence in my academic achievements, I trust that the "right" dental school, the appropriate fit for me, will recognize these achievements with the review of each semester's results, improved DAT results, letters of recommendation and application essay.

Best of luck to everyone!

Im interested in MD but now a little concerned... what is the cut off for interview??? if you know...

That's great, HD!

Hockey: You didn't say where you got your interview? Tell us.
Congrats anyway. I know how you feel. I got my first a week ago and it felt so good after getting a rejection the week before. I went from the dumps to cloud nine. This experience is enough to make you manic depressant!

Holden is exactly right! I went from chump to pumped.

UT houston
I got another reject letter yesterday afternoon too. I am not upset. My top choice is deciding to interview me, but case and loma linda isn't weird.

You were not the first to receive the big R letter; you were just the first to admit it. I got mine from U. of Md. dated Aug. 6! That means they did not even have my LORs yet. (or my 2nd DAT scores) I thought schools kept you around until your file was complete? Getting that first letter is harsh, even if it is not from one of your top picks. Also, for everybody's info, Temple set their interview cut off for now at a GPA of 3.0 and an 18AA in the DATs. Anything lower in either stat and you will not get an interview. They already received a huge number of applicants by mid June and only 200 of that lot had below an 18 AA, hence the cut off for interviews.

Hi,
What was your GPA and DAT score? I didnt know that they could send out rejection letters so early. What was your AADSAS number? Now i am getting worried. I havent gotten any rejection letters yet and I Have gotten a few secondaries. If i got secondaries, does that mean i have a good chance or is that just a way to get money?

ranark said:

It's acceptances that schools will not notify you of until December 1st. If you are receiving secondaries it means schools are like what they see so far and want to obtain some more information. If they like what they see on the secondary an invitation to interview is usually the next step. And yes, I suppose one of the many reasons for secondaries is another way for schools to help fund their admissions process.

The AADSAS figured out my GPA higher than my school and I did (because of + and - thing) but not complaining. My nonsc.GPA 3.6; science 3.3-(my undergrad school is strong) I have good extrac./sports/honors/community service/shadowing,etc; I don't remember my # but I transmitted my app.6/20. My DAT scores are my weakness -17 AA; 17 TS, but I am retaking Oct.

I know this thread is for rejections and not for stats-I only posted my stats here earlier because someone asked about them. Just to show I know it is for the big "R", I have one more to post: Columbia. I was expecting it because I applied before taking the DAT's and had, frankly, expected to do a whole lot better. Nevertheless, it bothers you just the same. I have to focus now on studying, along with regular schoolwork-am retaking on Oct 21, and would rather stick pins in my eyes but I have no choice- and also focus on the positive that I do have an interview schduled 9/24 at one of my top choices. besides, there are still a few schools I did not hear from yet, and two that just sent me secondaries. (I still have hope there-Hope Springs
eternal and all that jazz) Hockey is right; we have to Keep the Faith; there is a school for us. Holden

Should have been a great day today for my party members. No mail was delivered today, so no rejections.

heh, glad to see im not the only one who actually thought of it this way.

Also no mail = no bills! 😀 Good news for all.

keep this thread alive!

anyone with anything new?

I just found this thread and wanted to put in my reject from Loma Linda, they were not the most helpful in telling what was the reason for the rejection or how to improve. A applicant from last year said they were very selective and really wanted high GPA's.
