Rejections 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, opened my mail box today, saw a nice shiny letter (albeit suspiciosuly thin). Wake Forest? Hmm...that'd be nice. Wait. Only two paragraphs. Starts with "Thank you for your interest". It's even dated for next week. Like they couldn't wait a few more days to reject me.

Yeah, I had been telling myself up to this point that snail mail=invite. Apparently not true. Apparently programs will, in fact, take the effort to print a letter, get the PD to sign it, and stuff it down my mailbox just to tell me thanks, but...

Seriously, I prefer the band-aid approach. Quick and painful. I can sniff a rejection via email by the subject line. If it don't say "interview" or "invitation", I ain't gonna be there. The letter leaves me guessing. Maybe they should put a big red-rubber-stamped REJECTION on the front of the envelope and save me the anticipation of even opening it. Hope the 3-year old next door didn't hear me curse in the driveway.

Waitlisted at Hopkins. Probably won't waste my time there if they call back since I'm really not after the name of JHU and Baltimore really sucks.

Ditto. They said the median USMLE was 233. That is crazy.

waitlisted as well.

first, very much agreed about their median USMLE score for people being INTERVIEWED (with the accepted class very likely to be much higher than that). i think its pretty silly to have a waitlist for INTERVIEWS. i mean, i think a lot of us have gotten interviews we're pretty happy with currently, and i very likely would NOT change my travel plans now just to accommodate JHU - especially considering my chances of matching there would be very slim regardless.

oh well, continued good luck to everybody!

But hey, Baltimore does not "really suck". The city is really getting better, and it's only #13 on the Most Dangerous Cities list. Plus, the Ravens are awesome.

Baltimore does suck. In fact, in German it means a whales vagina... but, agree to disagree.

I highly doubt they will call me. They probably have hundereds of people waitlisted so whatever. I crossed them off my list.

I just applied so I could go to The Masters anyway.

13. Wake Forest

I don't understand why this school does not send e-mails. Don't they understand that it would be much cheaper for them if they stopped using snail mail?

I suppose it's too late, but why didn't you apply to a back up program or two? Harvard, Yale and California programs alone is slightly risky. I've heard that ranking 10 programs is pretty safe. Hope you hear back from the rest of them. Good luck.

thanks for the info badgas..
ranking 10 programs is a lot.
wish me luck .
i figure from my current interview list i have let me see how many spots..
73 spots in all the six programs. I hope this math is logical what do you guys think.

😡

I got an invite from U Washington and I've seen others with invites from BWH, BID and UCSD

Good Luck

Everyone gets waitlisted at hopkins - it's just a way to make you feel a little better about the rejection.

Baltimore isn't all bad. Lived here for the past four years and am sad I'm moving out. With the revitalization it has actually become a pretty cool city - lots of great places to eat, lots of fun things to do and did I say GO
R-A-V-E-N-S?

If saying that Baltimore sucks makes you feel better about getting rejected, then so be it. Everyone has their own coping mechanisms.

I ended up getting an interview invitation to JHU, but since I applied so late in the game all the spots in January/December were taken. They had one day left in November, and I'm in AZ doing CCM....not happening. So I'm wait-listed too, maybe there will be some cancellations. 🙄

I rotated there and not even a courtesy invite. Classy move on their part.

Rejection from UCSD and UPenn.

It will probably be rejections from now on.🙁

I got rejected... AGAIN! They must really not want me to come. I was thinking about going anyways when I got my first rejection but after the second one, I'm starting to think I'm not welcome there!

I also got rejected twice. They must be really hostile people there in NH 😀

waitlisted at Rush

wow it is amazing how anesthesiology has changed.... I attended residency in 2000-2003 (not that long ago). Back then the mean step I scores hovered around 210 or so and multiple rejections were unheard off. Boy, how time changes.

I know we're at a point where rejections aren't exactly a surprise, but I had to post.

Got one today from a school up north- apparently the coordinator was so busy rejecting me, she neglected to tell me which school I should cross off my big, now red list. No greeting in the message, no niceties, formatted like a telegraph. I had to decode the school from her email address.

UCHC..what is that? ...... www.uchc.edu.... Ohhh...UConn. HHmmmpphh.
