Releasing Step 2 Scores

If you marked on ERAS that you do not want step 2 scores automatically released, will programs still be able to see that you passed? Or will they think you did not pass and therefore did not release your score? I took step 2 and passed, but it was not better than my step 1 score so I did not release it... Does anyone know how this works?

I think that is for the purposes of the application only. Once you get matched, most programs require that you pass Step II prior to entering the residency (and most schools require it for graduation), so at some point, the program has to know you passed. I would assume they get the scores from the NBME people themselves, but I don't know that for sure.
