Do dental schools like/loathe/don't really care to see that you were involved in any religious group organizations on campus? I'm just asking because it seems that a lot are saying to avoid including anything about religion or politics on your application or in interviews.

There's a difference between listing involvement in a religious/political organization and making it the center of attention in an application or interview.

I focused on the leadership/ volunteering aspects only.
There's no reason to talk about religious doctrine. You're not trying to convert anyone to your religion, you're applying to enter dental school.
I don't currently follow a specific religion and wouldn't have mentioned anything about my past/present religious beliefs unless asked specifically (which they are not supposed to ask)

They can be touchy subjects. I would avoid it.
Instead, you can say that you were involved in organizations on campus focused on XYZ (whatever it is that you actually did such as community service, tutoring, outreach, etc), but I would avoid mentioning that it was religious based.
What if you're at an interview and the topic of religion or politics comes up, and you find that the interviewer disagrees with you. You might get rejected. Was it because of that conversation? Maybe. Would that be unfair? Yes. Will you be able to prove it? No.
Best to avoid those topics.

Thanks for all your helpful comments!

Eh I'm not sure I necessarily agree with this. If it's something you were involved in throughout college then you shouldn't have to hide it because you think some people may have different beliefs. I participated in CRU throughout my four years in college which is a Christian college ministry and every admissions person I've talked to or asked about this has advised me to include it on my application. Of course if it does get brought up in an interview, it's important to know how to talk about it in an appropriate manner.

To each their own.

I say definitely put it down.
I put down my religious involvement a few times on my application and in my personal statement. And I got into nearly every school I applied to (looking at you Harvard).
And in fact it came up at interviews like Columbia, pen, UoP etc. in fact I have heard of people (other Mormons to be precise) getting hounded for NOT mentioning church stuff when it is obvious they are involved since they go to BYU.

Don't push your religion or beliefs but definitely show that you are involved and have a firm belief in your own faith etc.

Hmm. My friend worked a lot with his religious community (not Christian) and was advised not to put anything on his application about it...
He did anyway and I don't believe it was a problem. If you did good work with your religious group and it was a big part of your life, definitely put it on there.
