Hi, MS1 here. So I didn't get as high as I wanted on my last exam and as a result will have to remediate a course over the summer. Per my school's policy, remediations are not reflected on my transcript or MSPE. Will this still be a potential red flag for residencies that I should expect to have to explain?

Remediation doesn't reflect in your transcript in terms of your GPA calculation, but I'm sure they mark it somewhere somehow. My school put an X as the grade for remediating successfully which is equivalent to a C. But don't worry as long it's a one time thing, this won't affect you as much for residency. What matters is Board scores, research and your LORs, but preclinical grades not so much.

I would go to your dean/registrar/whomever and just ask point blank: will this be visible on ERAS?

They may not see the remediation but may see a Fail or Conditional Pass on the first try. Who knows.

Also you had me in the first half with “so I didn’t get as high as I wanted to”. Wasn’t sure where we were going with that.

If it’s not on your transcript, you’re in the clear.

I had to retake a shelf exam, my school was nice enough to not put that anywhere in my mspe so the only person who knows at this point is me. When I had to retake it, I had to meet with my dean beforehand and he told me “don’t worry, everyone has bad days and we won’t make 1 bad day be reflected on your record”.

Which was great! I did just have a bad day, I crushed the retake and never had any other bad test days during med school.
